The State Archaeological Museum was established in 1962 and located at 1, Satyen Roy Rd, Nr gate no 1 of Behala Bazar Metro Station, Kolkata, West Bengal 700034.

Photo no 2: Early history Gallery on 1st floor of the museum displayed this original statue and relics inside showcase obtained from excavations at Chandraketugarh (2nd-1st century BCE).

Photo No 4: A very old status of Radha, Krishna and Sakhi displayed in showcase. Nineteenth century models collected from Raiganj, Uttar dinajpur, West Bengal.

Photo No 5, 6 & 7: Copper hoards:

These all can be identified as bronze or better as low tin bronze. In early historic period this content of tin increased in the usage of man with percentage around 20, this typical alloy series are called high tin bronze. Though the examples of Wari-Bateshwar and also mirror of Chandraketugarh are surface finds, yet high tin bronze mirrors excavated from Mahasthan are also emphasized its production and uses in early historic Bengal.

Photo No 9: Surya, Pala, 11th c. CE, Bengal
In Hindu belief system, Surya is considered the source of life and light. Origin of Surya worship can be traced to the Rigveda. Worship of Surya as most important deity used to be very prevalent during Pala era (8th-12th centuries).

In order to promote and publicity of the museum has a mobile exhibition van. There are many audio visual monitors display the collections of the museum with running commentary. Normally one complete viewing time is fifteen to twenty minutes. These van movies arround all districts of West Bengal as well as they visit to academic institutions on spacial cases.

All photos are taken by mobile my smartphone. I have not edited any photo. In few photos there are reflection on the front screen of showcase which appeared in the photos.
