Supporting the Batwa with solar panels for lighting

in STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE2 years ago

Hello everyone here!
Has any of you ever heard about the Batwa, formally called the pygmies ? These were the original forest inhabitats and our fore fathers. They used to live in grass thatched houses and would survive by hunting some of the wild animals for food and skins to wear. The buffalos and antelopes were mostly hunted. These people would also depend on the forest herbal medicines and wild honey from stingless bees. They would exchange the meat from the hunted animal with the sorghum and arrows from the communities.
They ate roasted meat and food from the wild fire they would make. This was made by rubbing two hibiscus sticks against each other.

In 1991, the government removed them from the forests to conserve wildlife mostly the endagered and rare species of mountain gorillas. They were left homless and this was a strange life to them. They were so friendly with the mountain gorillas and were conserving them.
Now they nolonger enter the forests, if they do, they are imprisoned as poachers.

With the help of some little donations from different guests and small companies, we have managed to build about sixteen homes for them and the little donations for the small solar panels that would help them light at night.

These panels still are not enough for all the homes, we still need more to support to these indegenous people.

We went there as a team to show them how to use the panels efficiently and they were happy.

We also buy them some clothes, shoes ,and books and pencils for the schooling young kids.

They are the conservation refugees, now we are tying to get them used with the normal life and show them that we still care about them.

Thank you!! That's absolutely true, everyone needs a hand from one another. It's a good definition of humanity. We usually go with a slogan " help not because you have much, but because you know how it hurts to have nothing"

Thanks for your comment!

@hillaryonbless

My respect, take my hat off
