Before we can talk about environmental hygiene, there is the need for us to first of all understand what is meant by hygiene. Hygiene can be explained as the set of activities that is being practiced in order to preserve a healthy living. This healthy practices has to do with our personal hygiene and the environmental hygiene. The personal hygiene is what is most important and also it is what determines how clean an individual is. There is this believe or saying that if a person’s personal hygiene is accurate, then it is also definitely that his surrounding or environment too will definitely be clean. This is because the person or individual them selves are clean. But if it happens that when their personal hygiene is poor. Then there is the possibility that their surroundings too wouldn’t be clean. With this said, we can conclude that there is two forms of hygiene. Which is the;
- Personal Hygiene
- Environmental Hygiene
Based on what the contents is asking us to write, we are expected to talk about the environmental hygiene. Which is what is going to be my main focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE
Environmental hygiene is a continuous practical way of keeping our surroundings clean and healthy in order to make it a comfortable and convenient place to live. The environmental hygiene encompasses or generally talk about all the physical factors external to the hygiene of an individual. One could talk about the water bodies, the refuse dump and our forest reserves. These are some of the physical factors that is important for us to keep clean.
HOW DO WE KEEP OUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN?
- One of the best way to keep our environment clean is by first of all cleaning around our homes. There are a lot of activities that we can do at home to keep our homes clean. We have to make it a habit of sweeping around the house every single day. Also we can weed around the bushy places in our house to make the house clean and free from harmful animals that tend to be living in them.

2. There is the need for us to be washing our bathrooms and toilets most often to keep them clean and healthy. We should also develop the habit or character of dumping the refuse at the right place and not loitering them around the house.
3.There is the need for us to join others, that is our neighbors in doing communal activities like taking out the garbages in our gutters and also cleaning around our water bodies and public places like the hospitals and schools to keep the community or environment clean and healthy.
IMPORTANCE OR BENEFITS OF KEEPING THE ENVIRONMENT CLEAN
There is definitely some positive outcome whenever we keep our environments clean. This positive outcomes will have to do with how clean and healthy our environment will be after we have cleaned them. Also we tend to be always healthy due to the fact that the environment is clean and free from diseases causing illnesses. Below are some additional points on the importance of keeping the environment clean.
Whenever our gutters or the drainage systems are being cleaned and free from the chocked garbages, water moves freely in them. The chance of floods happening as a result of the water not finding a place to pass due to the chocked gutters reduces.
Illnesses like malaria which is as a result of the insects living in our bushy environments and our stagnant water bodies reduces after we have weed the bushes and also clean the stagnant water bodies.
Our surroundings becomes neat and presentable to the outside world as a result of us cleaning it. The environment happens to be free from harmful animals like snakes and scorpions that lives in the bushy part of the environment that tends to be harming people
In conclusion, how our environment looks or appears defines who we are. So we have to try our possible best to always keep them clean. Also, we keeping the environment clean in return benefits us we the people living in it. This is because it becomes convenient and a healthy place for us to live.
