What is your indigenous language, is it your country's official language and can your kids speak the language?

My country is Nigeria and my indigenous language is [Igbo language] Igbo is one of the four official languages of the Nigerian and is spoken by the Igbo people from the southeast Nigeria Originally it belong to the Congo-Saharan branch of the Niger-Congo language family but is now grouped under benin branch of the Niger-Congo language family. Like most of the Niger Congo languages ,Igbo language is tonal meaning that the pitch or tone in which a word is pronounced can change its meaning.

Today Igbo language is in spoken by millions of people in Nigeria and across the globe; it is an alive language with holds valuable oral traditions such as proverbs and folklores of Nigeria therefore when talking about kids, I am not married but whenever am blessed with a kid or kids, it will be normalized to know that my kids will be speaking Igbo language.

What are some of your country's traditions and how do you preserve them orally?

Nigeria is a country rich in diverse cultural traditions and each with its own unique customs and practices so some of the traditional practices in Nigeria are, Festivals: Currently Nigeria has the colour festivals that include Durbar Festival, Argungu Fishing Festival, New Yam Festival and Osun-Osogbo Festival and most of these colour festivals incorporate dance, music, dress code and other form of traditional conducts that have cultural values.

Again is traditional Weddings: It is colourful and culturally rich especially in Nigerian traditional weddings and all the ethnic groups including the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa have their own wedding expectations and these ceremonies involve traditional clothing, music and dances and also form of rituals that help in keeping culture afloat.

Now as for how I do preserve them orally it is by cooking traditional Nigerian foods such as Jollof rice, egusi soup, pounded yam and sharing life stories and beautifully expressing Nigeria’s cultural heritage and also propagating the same for the future generations.

Thanks for reading my post I'm inviting @josepha ,@pea07 and @kuzyboy to participate.
