#Club75 Contest Environment 8th: Sustainable food - Cultivating crops to increase soil fertility and Increase Food Production

Hello steemians of the better life community I'm glad to be partaking in this contest organized by @klen.civil on sustainable food.
I find this contest interesting and going for it fulfills my passion to contribute to the fight against global warming as a steemian in my own small way.

Introduction

To begin I'll like to define some key words from the topic, Sustainable food, Soil fertility,Food Production, and Environment.

Sustainable food
These are environment friendly foods that minimize greenhouse gas emissions and use resources as sustainably as possible,they can be either grown or reared in a manner that will limit negative impacts on the environment and the farmer producing them.

Soil fertility
This is the state of the soil where the soil has a high amount of nutrients needed to support a large variety of plants, providing nutrients,minerals needed to increase crop production.

Food Production
These are all the activities and processes that bring forth food for feeding family and friends.

Environment
The natural surrounding,that is mostly affected by biotic and abiotic factors.

All these are the main points affecting the state of global warming and if well managed and the right procedures are put forth,we stand a chance of promoting a better future of our planet and all its inhabitants.

Activity Performed to Fight against Global warming

To reduce global warming, I cultivate Cucumeropsis mannii in my locality, I do this every year because of the benefits of this crop.
Cucumeropsis mannii is a good crop that's indigenous to the Tropical parts of Africa,their growth is noticed by their long climbing vines which spread all over the farmland. Their flowers a yellowish in color and sprout forth between 1 to 2 weeks of planting right after the beginning of the rainy season in March and May and are known to produce melons that weigh 0.8 to 1.8kg containing 90 to 400 seeds

The benefits of this food crop are unlimited,but for the purpose of this contest here's the fee I want to mention here.

• It thrives on very harsh condition,conditions of heat,dry ground etc.
• It is rarely affected by pests,and diseases.
• It increase soil quality via ground cover, holding ground together using roots, and suppression of weeds.
• The seeds are excellent vegetable proteins.
• It holds a high nutritional value of 44% oil,30% proteins.
  This makes it an ideal sustainable food.

Cultivation process
The seeds are dried and selected and when the season comes,they are prepared for planting.

We use tools such as a hoe when planting these seeds.

During planting,the holes dug shouldn't be too deep and the the seeds are planted at a spacing of 1m per stand.
