My Traditional Delight.

Greetings fellow steemians, I am pleased to participate in this wonderful cooking contest, I am @blessedbee from Nigeria.

I want to show you one of the dishes mostly prepared by the Akwaibomites; Beans and plantain.

Beans and plantain is a very nutritious food which makes most Akwa Ibom resident to eat it , beans is very rich in protein and plantain is also very rich in iron, imagine the combination of this two how nutritious it will be. But before going to the nutritional content of the meal, I will love to mention the ingredients used in preparing this delicacy and the step by step method in preparing it.


INGREDIENTS:


  1. Beans
  2. Plantain (ripe or unripe)
  3. Crayfish
  4. Onions
  5. Seasoning cube
  6. Pepper
  7. Oil
  8. Salt

METHOD OF PREPARATION


Select your beans properly to avoid sand and dirt, wash it and place it on fire, add water, leave it to boil for 15 minutes. Then filter it and rinse it, put it back on fire add water to the quantity that will soften the beans.

Peel off the plantain and wash it clean, cut it into smaller pieces , (if it is unripe plantain, you pour it immediately into the beans and Allow it to boil together, but in my case, I used the ripe one so I allowed beans to soften before adding it.) So when the beans is soft you pour in your plantain and stir it properly, cover it and allow it steam for 15minutes .

When it is properly steamed, you add your crayfish, seasoning cube, oil, salt, onions and pepper all at once, stir it till it is mixed, taste of it to know if the taste is desirable, if it is, you cover the pot for few minutes so that all the ingredients will be properly cooked.

Bring it down from the cooker and enjoy your meal with pap or custard.

Now let's talk about the nutritional content of beans and plantain:

  1. Protein
  2. Iron
  3. Folate
  4. Potassium
  5. Magnesium
  6. Fibre
  7. Vitamin A

WHY IS THIS MEAL SPECIAL


It is special to me because of the health benefits of eating it.
Beans and plantain is very healthy to human health and it is good to eat healthy foods.


SOME HEALTHY BENEFITS OF EATING BEANS AND PLANTAIN


  1. Helps in reducing weight: The high proteinous content and fibre makes it difficult to feel hungry after taking it so it helps in reducing weight gain.

  2. Helps to avoid problems in the heart: When you eat this nutritious food, the cholesterol in your body will be reduced, blood pressure will also be reduced, making it possible for it to lower the chances of having heart diseases.

  3. Aids Digestion: When you eat this meals, It will digest fast and makes it easier for bowel movement.

The taste of beans and plantain is what every man in Akwa Ibom state wants to have if I am not mistaken. The delicacy is famous in this part of the world, not just because of its taste but because of its nutritional content and, to men, its long satisfactory power. This is one of my favorites.

You have stated easy-to-follow steps to preparing this delight; even someone who has not cooked it before can with the steps you have provided.

You also stated the nutritional benefits of this delicacy, which are true. bean is enriched with protein and plantain with iron. Eating this meal helps in checking weight and reduces the sugar level of frequent consumers.

@blessedbee beans and plantain is my favourite dish anyday anytime. It's so nutritious and filling tho I haven't made any in recent times due to the high prices of both beans and plantain.
