MY TRADITIONAL DELIGHT

Hello friends, Hope we are doing very well! I am from Akwa Ibom State and we are known across Nigeria as the home of food. We have lots of traditional delights and few of the are; Ekpang nkukwo, ato mboro, afia efere, nkoti ye ukom, immang, ayan ekpang, edita iwa, Edessi, and many others. I will be sharing how to cook one of my traditional delight known as "ato mboro". Ato mboro is a meal prepared with green bananas.

BANANAS

Bananas are fruits that are very nutritious to the body and they have several health benefits. They are of two categories; the green bananas and the yellow bananas. The Green bananas are unripe while the yellow bananas are ripe ones. Below are few health benefits of eating bananas:

  1. Bananas contains important minerals that the body needs for blood purification and proper functioning of our nerves.
  2. Green bananas are full of dietary fibre that can prevent bloating and constipation.
  3. Bananas also boost proper functioning of our digestive tract.
  4. Bananas contain vitamins that controls the level of glucose in people that have type-2 diabetes.
  5. Bananas also have vitamins that prevents our hairs from breaking.
  6. Bananas are also good at nourishing our skin and this is why most people use it as baby food.

ITEMS FOR MY TRADITIONAL DELIGHT (ATO MBORO)

  1. Green bananas
  2. Crayfish
  3. Pepper
  4. Maggi
  5. salt
  6. Curry leave
  7. Kpomo
  8. Palm oil
  9. Onions

PREPARATION

Step one: Cut and peel the banana peels and wash the flesh in clean water.

Step two: Use grater to grate the banana flesh into something like this👇

Step three: Pound pepper and crayfish together using a mortar and pestle.

Step four: Select, wash with clean water and cut the curry leave.

Step five: Wash and cut the kpomo into tiny pieces like this👇

Step six: wash and cut your onions.

COOKING

The process of cooking this particular meal is quite simple for anyone to try by his or herself. The folloing steps are my own processes of cooking ato mboro:

Step one: Rinse your pot and add the quantity of water that is required base on the quantity of grated banana and put on fire to boil.

Step two: After it boils, add the pounded crayfish, pepper, maggi, salt and some onions.

Step three: Cut the grated banana in tiny ball-shape into the pot and add the kpomo, onoins again and the curry leaves and leave it to boil for few seconds.

Step four: Add your desired quantity of palm oil and stir together to mix well. Have a taste incase you need to add more seasoning cubes or salt and then turn off the fire and our traditional delight is ready.

It's one of my favorites, too, though I don't cook it frequently, but I love mine with plenty of periwinkles, fish, and brisket bones. I especially like its flavor with curry leaves. Thank you for sharing with us and success!
