Do you wonder why our dear earth is getting more warmer every year? Why are we using the air conditioners in the March, however we used to wear warm clothes in March and April? Do you panic thinking that if this is the climate change the world has started talking about then what will the future looks like if this keeps happening with its usuall pace? Then let's discuss today how we can reverse the climate changes through one factor that is sustainable food system.

Current Foodsystem and climate disaster

We go every week to grocery stores to buy the food to eat that lies there for many months and years who knows? That packaged food we eat contributes no nutritional value for our health that it demands. Apart from causing diseases and obesting in the world, the food that is processed and packaged causes the climate change by consuming the fossils fuels(coal, oil and natural gas).

Guave Tree-

Do you know how? The food that is not locally produced, being fertilized, processed with chemicals, and transported on the vehicles need the fuels. Which cames from the fossil fuels that contains large amount of carbon due to the fact that these fossils were burried for millions of years. So when the industries burn these fossil fuels to run their factories to process and package the food, it go up in the atmosphere where it combines with oxygen that produces carbon dioxide(causes the warm temperature)

According to food and agriculture organization(FAO), Fossil fuel burning solely due to the inhuman activities of the humans contribute to 8% release of the greenhouse gases primarily carbon dioxide. Source

Sustainable food

Sustainable food is the way to go for fighting the climate disaster we're facing today.

Mannual labor in Potato Fields-

  • Food that is produced locally and naturally without using fertilizers and presticidies can be sustainable food. It ensures that you get all the nutrition through the food that your body requires due to no processing in this food. It provides minimum or no negative impact on the environment due to natural methods of harvesting and transporting food locally to near farmer's market or food hub.

  • Sustainable food ensures nutrition rich soil as it encourages to grow different crops after every harvesting. That allows you to get rich supplies of vegetables and fruits

  • It discourages the use of presticides that won't kill the insects and birds that are friendly for the environment. Instead this food system convince at using the compost as a fertilizer which is organic debris (decaying plant or animal materials).

  • Local food system encurages the farmers to increase their food rates that would ensure the sound agriculture in the country.

  • No processing and packaging means no chemicals applied to the food

  • This needs no transport system to deliver the food to another city or country with no fossil fuel utilization as a consequence. This accomodates less air pollution.

  • No or less food is wasted in sustainable food system as it does during the packaging and transporting of the food in industies. If you buy mind fully through the farmer's market you can avoid the food wasting concern that accounts for the poor ocean ecosystem.

  • 1.6 billion hector land generates food that goes into junk without being placed on the food plates. It's roughly 30% of the global land.

Things to do for sustainable food

  • Try eating foods that contain less amount of carbon. For that you've the option to switch to vegetables that contains more water and fibers.

  • Grow your own veggies in your gardens.Try growing tomatoes, onions, coriander, mint and things you love.

  • Purchase your food from local market place of the farmers.

  • Buy only that much food which is your need. Don't throw out the leftover in a trash, instead feed the hungry people. It's better to feed the poor than to trash out the food to collapse the water system of the oceans.

Hope you guys can understand the current scenario of our poor food system and its devastating effects of environment. So try to be mindful with your food choices.
