Floods hit North Aceh

On Tuesday afternoon (January 05, 2022) I joined the @steemforsdgs team to visit the locations of victims of natural disasters. The flood natural disaster has just inundated 15 sub-districts in North Aceh Regency since January 1, 2022. According to information I received from the Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) team, the flood is still submerging 5 sub-districts in North Aceh to date.

Flooding in 15 sub-districts of North Aceh was caused by heavy rainfall a few days ago, the area has been raining heavily since Thursday (December 30, 2021) one day before entering the 2022 new year. Heavy rain caused 3 rivers flowing across North Aceh to overflow and resulted in the date the river broke at some point locations. As a result of the collapse of the river embankment, it submerged residential areas in 15 districts of North Aceh.

This year's natural disaster is more severe than in previous years, the water level is estimated to be from one to two meters. A number of residents in the flooded villages began to flee to the surau (Meunasah) and the highlands in their respective villages. There they set up refugee camps, they waited for aid and logistical supplies such as food, clothing and medicine. The Basarnas team and volunteers continued to arrive at several locations for evacuation of flood victims.

Indonesian Promoters care

I just met with the @steemforsdgs team manager, we are planning an "act of kindness" program to visit flood victims. We immediately went to the evacuation site and the volunteer camp on duty. This event was directly coordinated by @ponpase and other members of the @steemforsdgs team. I and several other Indonesian promoters also attended and participated in the distribution of this aid.

At 16:00 WIB we have gathered at one location, we immediately prepare logistics to be donated to victims of natural disasters. We shopped at the Geudong market, Samudera sub-district and there we also waited for all our colleagues to join us. We have prepared several types of logistics and basic necessities, such as rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, bread, eggs and several other necessities. In this humanitarian and disaster care visit, all the funds we use are sourced from the @steemforsdgs volunteer team.

After everything was packed, we immediately headed to the location point in downtown Lhokseumawe, North Aceh Regency. We went on 4 motorbikes and there were 8 Steemit volunteers who joined the @steemforsdgs team. The management of the @steemforsdgs team such as @ponpase, @pojan, @muhajir169 and @guski were present with us, I and several other Indonesian promoters also supported this act of kindness. Among some other active Steemit users are @alvin.steem, @palang and @volunter.

Visit to the refugee camp

We spent 1 hour traveling to the point of refuge and volunteer camp in downtown Lhokseukon, North Aceh district. Previously, we had communicated with one of the volunteers on duty at the refugee camp, so we immediately moved closer to the evacuation site. When we got there we immediately met the village officials and volunteers on duty, we immediately handed over the aid in the form of logistics that we brought. There, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) volunteers and Human Initiative (HI) volunteers were waiting for us.

After handing over logistical assistance at the refugee camp, we immediately moved to several locations where people's houses were still flooded. During this visit we were guided directly by one of the volunteer leaders on duty to the homes of local residents. We saw that some houses were still submerged by the flood, they still needed help in the form of logistics, basic necessities and medicines. We did not hand over the assistance "Door to Door" because we had already handed it over to the volunteer team on duty. This is because we cannot reach various corners of people's houses, because many submerged locations must be accessed using special boats.

After returning from there we had another discussion with team members @steemforsdgs, I and several other Indonesian promoters wanted to visit again there. If in the next few days the water that has submerged the settlements has not subsided, then we will plan a return visit on a "Door to Door" basis. We really care about the victims who are being hit by the flood disaster, we hope the flood will recede soon and become conducive again so that people can get back to their activities.
