I think for a children to have a pet depends on the mindset of the children. A child when is capable of knowing that every living being needs proper food, care, water, bath on right time, a warm and cozy place to sleep on, love, and attention. If a child can handle the responsibility of taking care of a pet, then I think that age is perfect for them to have one. However, if the child cannot take care of a pet and it gets neglected then that is not the best age for them to have a pet. It all depends on the child and their ability to handle taking care of a pet properly. So generally saying a child of more than 12 years old is good to have a pet.
