Vegetable Pakora | Flavors from Bangladeshi Cuisine!
Vegetable Pakora is one of our local popular snacks. You will find hardly anyone who never tasted it, doesn't know how to prepare it!
This is the one best dish you can have as an afternoon snack that doesn't require much time, only a few ingredients and it's ready to serve. There's no fixed rule preparing it. You can add as many vegetables as you want, add what you like, and avoid what you don't want to eat.
You may say that as it's deep-fried so it's not that healthy. Well, I can't deny that. But it's okay to have something rich with oil sometimes, no?
Let me share the detail with you!
What we need?
- Vegetables
- Cornflour
- Salt, turmeric powder
- Onion and chili slices
- Water
- Coriander (optional)
- Mixed spice powder (optional)
- Vegetable oil
How to make it?
Step 1
Wash, cut/slice the vegetables. As I was saying there's no fixed rule so you can slice them the way you like. I would recommend you to make small slices if you are not gonna boil them. And you can add colorful vegetables so it will look nice.
Add all the ingredients proportionately/as per your taste. Use the cornflour as starch/to stick the items altogether. If you are a first-timer, go slow; add a spoon first then add some water as per your need. Make a medium dense 'pakora' so you can put them easily on the fryer.
Put the pakoras on the preheated vegetable oil. Cook and fry for a few minutes in low heat. If you use boiled vegetables then fry them in medium heat.
Flip them once in a minute. It actually doesn't require much time to fry them.
Take them off the pan and they are ready to serve.
You can serve them with some salad or with any kind of sauce; whatever you like and available to you.
It's a very simple dish yet it tastes good. I hope we all have the ingredients at home. Just try it and you will be amazed by the chunky, hot, and spicy taste. We usually enjoy Pakora with rice as a side dish but most of the time as a tea snack.
Share with me if you have something similar in your cuisine. And what do you think about this vegetarian recipe?
