We have heard or seen the names of many competitions in life. Different organizations organize different types of competitions. But there are "fishing competitions" in many areas that I didn't know existed. Today a news comes before my eyes, from which I can learn about this "fishing competition".

The day-long fishing competition was organized at Sarail Government College Dighi in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Friday 5th November. The competition was organized by Sarail College Dighi Fisheries Committee. Such fishing competitions are organized several times every year.

Everyone participating in the competition can fish in this tank from 6 am to 5 pm. This year 7 prizes of 4 lakh 83 thousand taka were arranged for the contestants. This year the first prize is two lakh rupees, the second prize is one lakh rupees and the third prize is 50 thousand rupees.

To participate in this fishing competition, you have to buy a ticket first. This year the ticket price is set at 22,000 rupees. The one who can catch big fish in the allotted time will win.

The competition starts from six in the morning. Earlier, the place was decided by lottery among the contestants at 5 am. The contestants started fishing at the specified time. A total of 31 fishermen from different districts participated in this competition. The fishing competition continues till 5 pm. The results were announced after five o'clock.

In this year's competition, Abdul Majid of Kalisima village of Natai South Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila received the first prize of two lakh rupees. The organizers know that Abdul Majid came shortly after the start of the competition and took part in the competition, winning the 28th seat through lottery. At around 11 in the morning, after catching a dead fish on his hook, he weighed 5.225 kg.

Shitosh Biswas of Ushiura village in Sultanpur union of Brahmanbaria, whose fish weight is 4,900 kg, jumped second place in the competition. The third place went to Mosharraf Hossain of Gazipur district whose fish weight was 4.450 kg.

Sarail's UP member Md Habibur Rahman leased the tank for three years at a cost of Tk 10 lakh.
