Sesame Chili Oil
One fun thing to do during quarantine is to make something you always said you'd make when you're free...and now, I'm really, really free.
I love spicy food and I've always wanted to make my own chili sauce or chili oil. I'm not a good cook, so I started with something simple: Sesame Chili Oil!
To prepare a clean glass jar, put it in boiling water (be careful) and then set it aside to dry. It's very important to keep things clean and dry to prevent mold.
Then cut dried chili into flakes or small pieces and put it in cleaned glass jar. Add as much sesame seeds as you like (I roasted it for a better aroma), then add some salt.
Heat up vegetable oil, it doesn't need to be boiling but it just needs to be hot, then pour it into the jar. Stir it while pouring.
And that's it, you can enjoy it after it cools down.
This is what mine looks like:
Yum, that looks like home in a jar! (I miss Hong Kong)
Thanks for the tip of how to clean glass jars properly. ;)
No problem, I hope you have a better jar and more dried chili that I did hahaha. That's all I had in the kitchen.
Let me try next time! Looks so good, how spicy is it?
It's actually pretty spicy, like I was already sweating with half a teaspoon hahaha
Hahaha, I need this. Is there an amount to each or I can do whatever I like?
You can do whatever you like, I didn't really follow any suggested portion :)
Awesome, might do this when I run out of Chili oil. It’s looking like next week. Thanks Jan!
Yum, Janizlsc, looks really hot!!!
