Sleep without wake,,The love of a mother

in Steem Schools3 years ago

Hello steemians, it gives me pleasure to be part of this contest of poetry. It is really bringing the best in us. Many thanks to @dobartim for masterminding this great idea.

Now my poem.

Mother's milk gave me suck
Mother's fingers soothed my skin
The night kept mother awake
When baby was sour
And that was me!.

You vanished into the morning mist of
April's last days, 1998
Precisely how and when is
Locked up in your wooden box
Thus severing the Korlebu cord between
You and me, premier son of a premier daughter
Abenaa's Pioner child Kwabena
You put me through my infant paces
On the Gold Coast's Ga Shikp]n
Taa Taa, tuu tuu, in your maternal steps,
Maame Tutuaa, condolences!

You were brought into view again after
A long chilling month, your fave frozen
Into a grain Visage
Till you thawed somewhat
Into your familiar self but,
Still, insert, immobile like a
Sculptured bride
To the Mourners willful gaze

Your last Odumase words to me
Only a week before were,
Go in peace, it looks like rain"
Words as auspicious, puzzling, portentous,
Looking back..

Development

Certain cultural beliefs are common to many African people. This poem celebrates one such belief, the belief in the antiquity, the power and constant presence of ancestors. An important point of the African view of the world is that there is a strong link between the dead, especially ancestors, and the living, the ancestors are guardian angels of the living and their potency must be recognized.
They are involved in all our activities and our awareness of their presence gives us assurance and confidence.

The poem is a celebration of a mother. In terms of the development of the ideas, we notice that it is carefully divided into 5 sections, each expounding different attributes and action of the son showing our inter-relationship "Go in Peace"
The poet expresses his nostalgic longing for the kind of life he lived in his childhood with his mother. This enviable and exemplary life which there was peace and security has been undermined by changes introduced by the passage of time.
Using the metaphor of time the poet presents a catalogue of scenes and practices that confirm the beauty, innocence, humaneness, veneration for his mother and the tightly knit communal nature of our traditional societies before these healthy social or ethical values were abandoned owed for the predatory ones introduced by modern civilized ways.
I hope you've touched by mom's love.
