Trekking is the walk or brisk walk in outdoor. Normally people refer walk in the mountain as trekking. However, beach trekking is also popular in regions with long stretch of sea-beach.

Srikhola-Gorkhey trek

I prefer to trek at the mountain. Below are the reason why I like trekking.

(i) Environment friendly : Trekking involves walk in the nature and hence the car is not used. Thus, reducing the carbon footprint in the environment.

(ii) Good Exercise : Trekking helps us to keep our fitness. As the walk is in outdoor - trekkers get fresh oxygen. Trekking is far more beneficial than exercising inside a closed room of gym.

(iii) Support to local economy : The guide, porter, cook, helpers are hired from local people and that helps significant contribution to their livelihood.

(iv) Closeness to nature : Trekking trails usually goes through nature and the trekkers get close to nature while they trek. Trekking starts from where the motorable road ends. Trekkers can reach to places that are not accessible by car.

Lepchakha trek

(v) Awareness of local culture : Trekking help us to be close with local villagers. Most of the time trekkers stay at homestays or tea-houses maintained by local people. This gives us an opportunity to learn more about local culture and local lifestyle.

(vi) Team bonding : During trekking, the bonding between the group members gets strong. They need to understand each other, acknowledge their strength and weakness and support each other during the trek. This helps bonding and friendship between them that usually last their lifetime.
