Sweet Poisonous, The Dreaded Staff of Thorns -- Digital Drawing.
As you are my dear community, today I want to present a work that I decided to title Dulce Venenosa, El Temible Báculo de Espinas, and in it I portray a girl named Dulce who possesses the powerful and mystical (Báculo de Espinas) which is able to expel bursts of extremely poisonous thorns at long distances:
PROCESS
I started to create this character with the main idea of making a kind of super-heroine, but little by little while I was making strokes and correcting details I realized that the character had an expression like evil or sinister and that's why I decided to continue it in the style of Villain. I created a thin girl with a semi-short hair, a fixed and reckless look and with the Staff of thorns and her right hand as if she was preparing to launch a thorn attack.
Having well defined my sketch and outline, I started to apply colors to the skin using tones from a different palette, this time I decided to use very light sandy tones and on that base I applied darker tones to give some depth and shape to the face, neck and hands. Having finished with the basic skin, the next step in the process was to create the eyes for Dulce's character; for the eyes I focused on giving them a brownish color that would stand out from the skin and I painted the lips in a very light olive green color.
The next step in the painting process of my work was to build a good painting for Dulce Venenosa's clothing and in this case I decided to paint a kind of tight-fitting suit that would cover the character's neck and sleeves; for this I used a slightly softer olive green than the lips and starting from this I went towards much more saturated shades of green to create a good texture with few wrinkles or folds in the sleeves.
The hair was not so complicated since I knew from the sketch that I would do a short hairstyle and thanks to this I used short range brushes like watercolors and a square tip brush that gives a good finish on the final ends of the hair; use various shades of yellow to establish the hair and then brighter tones to achieve a good level of realism. Finishing with the hair I took the opportunity to build the Staff of Thorns in a new layer and I did this with the help of marsh green colors; first create the Staff with a normal brush and then with a special brush with an irregular tip create the texture in the form of fine tips and small thorns.
Finally, and to give a good complement to my drawing what I did was to create a good background like a forest covered by poison ivy, abundant weeds and so on; for this I laid the first bases of green color in gradient with black with a deformed brush which I blurred. Then with a brush with a special tip of leaves I was creating and giving shape of vegetation and forest to the whole background while I applied layer modes and was blending everything; finally I created the detail of the blood running in Dulce's hand, this to give the idea that the thorns of the staff were cutting her hand without her caring.
