Hello everyone, I'm very pleased to be participating in this contest, I want to share with you the finances of my country, how prizes of commodities fluctuates and why it fluctuates, I will also share with you the sources of income in our country giving reasons why they are considered as sources.
Cameroon is a country located in Western parts of Africa, bounded by Nigeria, Chad, Gabon, Congo, and Equitorial Guinea.
These borders have a lot of business relations.
The main sources of income comes from the sale of oil and gas, timber, aluminium, agricultural products, and sale of services. All these products and services are sold to the world market.
The prices of these products varies based on location, political crisis and demand from other countries, making the financial state of Cameroon to be unstable.
But over the years, Cameroon have experienced a steady increase in it's G.D.P and today, it is at a steady rate of 38.70 USD BILLION that's about 9214285714.28571 in steem currency.
The country suffers greatly from high unemployment rate, making the distance between rich and poor very high and also limiting the growth rate.
Another financial problem is the fact that prices of commodities increase continuously although efforts are being put forth in agriculture, and business sectors.
This may be due to a decrease in agricultural lands, due to urban growth.
The table below shows the increase in the prices of agricultural crops, the ones I usually consume
SN | Crop | Usual price (steem) | Current price (steem) |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Rice | 0.3 a cup | 0.4 a cup |
02 | cooking oil | 6 a litter | 10 a litter |
03 | meat | 6 a kg | 12 per kg |
04 | cooking gas | 25 to refill a bottle | 33 to refill bottle |
05 | Wheat flour | 2 per kg | 5 per kg |
06 | Corn | 15 per bucket | 19 per bucket |
07 | Beans | 0.3 per cup | 0.5 per cup |
08 | Garri | 0.35 per cup | 0.60 per cup |
Garri
Corn
Beans
Cooking oil
Rice
Gas bottle
There is no.valid reason why these commodities experience an increase in their prices, maybe because the marketers are not willing to sell, hence causing a scarcity in the market. Nonetheless, these commodities are commonly used by almost all households and their price increase raise a lot of awareness especially for Garri which is consumed by students, most people try to regulate prices by engaging in promotions and making the price lesser but these promotions don't last very long and once it's over, the prices return to normal.
It is depressing to see that a country rich in a lot of things experiences such an increase in price of it's agricultural produce.
The taxation department doesn't make it any better for farmers who want to engage in large scale production of these products, the tax office levies the same tax both for thriving and small industries, making it hard for the small companies to survive in the market, though for starting companies, the levies are not demanded immediately, once they are demanded, it is based on the immediate returns made by the company which might be deceiving to the tax officers because a balance sheet of how the money was made and where it is going to has not yet been made. Sometimes the tax are levied without proper assessment of the businesses.
Though these financial problems are experienced by the local people it is no doubt that efforts are still being made to make it better, that's why financial hope is believed and a better future awaits the younger generations.
That concludes my review of the finance of our country.
