Marriage in Nigeria cannot happen without the man paying the bride price to the family of the girl he wants to get married to. Bride price is a traditional something that is done in Nigeria which is a sign that yes the parents of the girl have agreed to give their daughter out for marriage.

In some parts of Nigeria, the bride price is very expensive as you will have to spend a lot providing the required items that are needed by the parents of the girl whom you want to get married to. Paying the bride price is a compulsory something that must be done before the parent or the girl you want to get married to can release their daughter for you.

Bride price in Nigeria is not only when you pay money for the girl you want to get married to, it is when you have to provide all the items that are given to you by the parents of the girl you want to get married to.

Like in the eastern part of Nigeria, the bride price comes with a lot of things such you buying clothes for the parents of the girl, the brothers, and sisters of the girl if there are any, and as well buying things for the Kingsmen in the community.

You will also have to buy goat, cow, and drinks when going to pay for the bride price which is paid during traditional weddings and usually comes first before a court of the white wedding. Traditional wedding in Nigeria is observed in the compound of the woman you want to get married to which is the time when the bride price is been paid.

It is during the traditional wedding that the bride's price is been paid to the groom's parents immediately the girl presents a cup of palm wine 🍷 to her lover which her husband then drinks and replaces the drink with the bride's price in cash.
