Introduction:

The first parable I learnt while growing up is "what goes around comes around" and it all makes sense now. Remember the days when we thought wearing oversized shirts and baggy jeans was the coolest thing ever? Or when we'd spend hours watching music videos on TV just to see our favorite artists? As Nigerians, we've experienced our fair share of trends that once seemed cool but now feel outdated. In this article, we'll take a trip down memory lane and explore things that used to be cool but now seem silly .

• Wearing Oversized Clothes :

Those baggy jeans and oversized shirts were once the height of fashion . Now, they're a relic of the past . People would call you old fashioned for wearing big baggy jeans, if you dress in that manners this days.

Fashion is one thing that has always evolved, It's always adding and taking aways just to met up with general evolution.

• Watching Music Videos only on TV :

Before YouTube and streaming services, we'd wait eagerly for our favorite music videos to play on TV . Now, it's a thing of the past .

You know, many years ago when I was still a child, my mum sent me to buy her seasoning for making soup. On my way back, I took a detour to a friend's house because it was time for a particular tv program. It took so much time before I got back home, and my mom was very pissed with me that day.

• Using Nokia Phones :

Those indestructible Nokia phones were once the coolest thing ever . Now, they're a nostalgic reminder of the past. Yes if you don't have a Nokia phone then, you are not in the new, but now android phones and iPhones has taken over the market and those Nokia phones are not as cool as they use to be.

• Wearing Platform Shoes :

From sandals to boots, platform shoes were once a staple in Nigerian fashion . Now, they're a fashion don't . Infact you should not be caught with those shoes, or you might be arrested(on a lighter note)

• Using Internet Cafes :

Before smartphones and home internet, internet cafes were the place to be . Now, they're a rare sight. We usually go to a cyber cafe to check results and do other Internet related activities. In fact we surf Facebook then from the cafe and not from the comfort body our homes like we do now.

In the cafe , you would buy time, ranging from one 30 minutes to 5 hours, anytime you exhaust your time and you want an extension, you request for more time from the attendant, and you would pay for it.

• Listening to Music on CDs :

Remember buying CDs and playing them on our stereos? 🎶 Now, it's all about streaming services .

• Wearing Jheri Curls :

Those curly, relaxed hairstyles were once the coolest thing ever . Now, they're a nostalgic reminder of the past .

• Using Pagers/Beepers :

Before mobile phones, pagers were the way to go . Now, they're a relic of the past . Who needs a pager, when you can set the alarm in your phones.

• Watching Home Videos :

Remember watching home videos on VHS tapes? Now, it's all about digital storage . You different hard drives to choose from, you even have your mobile phone storage to store movies

• Using Landline Phones :

Those landline phones were once the only way to communicate . Now, they're a rare sight . You have you mobile phones and a variety of network providers to choose from.

As Nigerians, we've experienced many trends that once seemed cool but now feel outdated . But who knows? Maybe in a few years, we'll see a resurgence of oversized clothes and platform shoes .
