What do you understand by pride price?

One thing that is common amongst African countries is the payment of pride price. Pride price is the fee you pay when you want to marry from a particular family. It is something we grew up to meet don't know how it started but everyone seem to accept it. Pride price is something we take pride in my country.

Will the bride price become a burden for you when you get married?

I do not think pride price we be an issue for me when i get married as the pride price we collect in my culture is not much. The last time we had a wedding in my house the pride price that was paid was #50 for my aunt's hand in marriage.

So the pride price is not big but what affects alot of people is the list that will be given to the groom to be provided for the bride's family that is were the weight is as the groom will have to provide everything on the list but as to the pride price on its own is not expensive. If there will be a problem it will be the list given to be provided for the groom's family not the pride price in itself.

What i think about pride price

Pride price is part of our culture and honestly i do not have any issues with it as it does not entail much to pay for pride price. It is actually beautiful what i have issues with is the list given to the groom to provide for the bride's family especially the bride's mom.

Some culture give outrageous lists which sometimes the groom cannot provide and may lead to a pause in the marriage. Some culture give lists and even add some community members benefits to it and such list can cause the groom to spend everything he has on the marriage leaving them stranded. Some even go as far as borrowing just to settle them.

I think each culture should be considerable in their list and they should consider the fact that their children needs money to start up something for themselves not spending everything in the marriage and leaving them stranded.
