It has been a while. I have been busy with lots of activities which has made me a bit inactive here in this community. Though I have been very active within the platform.

Today I wish to share with us a trending news which about the hack of WazirX Exchange and how we can cautiously protect ourselves and our funds from been hacked.

WazirX Exchange is one of the leading exhanges we have in India and recently there was a report that the wallet of the exchange was hacked and Over $230 Million Lost in the process. You can read details of the happenings here.

Now this is an exchange that was hacked with all the security measures that was put in place how much more your personal accounts. So this calls for a care and caution by all of us to try as much as we can to secure our account and our funds.

It was just yesterday that I was called by my team leader in the Steem kids and parents community to help the MOD on duty to review his article because his account got hacked while working yesterday.

I was surprised because they person in question started his review work already and just after a while the news came that his account has been hacked and a power down was initiated immediately.

I sat down to reflect on the issues and then brainstorm also why this is happening and I came out with few tips on how we can proctect ourselves and accounts from this cyber hackers.

This tips is mostly important to all Steemians so please read it till the end and see what you need to do always to ensure the safety of your account and possibly teach others to do same.

• As a Steemian if you have never changed your key since your account creation, then your account is mostly at risk because if hacked it can not be recovered this means that you must change your keys once or more after the account creation.

• Always find time monthly, quarterly or even every 6 months to change your keys and then update them in the respective places you have saved them ideally offline.

• On no condition should you share your key on social media such as WhatsApp or Facebook especially your private active or owner key. You can share your posting key only to trusted Alie if the need arises.

• Never use your owner key to login into any third party application aside the Steemit platform via the website or Steemworld if the need arises.

• Always check your account details daily using the Steemworld application. It is trusted and recommended by the Steemit team. Since you check your voting details such as voting power and voting CSI from there daily, then your account will be safe once you check it regularly.

• Lastly always update your devices and the application you use be it an exchange or a web and ensure to increase the security level when there is any room for that. Example if there is email verification, 2FA and phone verification combined always ensure you add all the verification means and don't see it as stress because it will surely help when the hackers come to you.
