INTRODUCTION

There is something I personally love about the blockchain network, and that is its dynamic nature, the fact that it is always advancing in its technologies, security protocols and cryptographic signatures, it notices the flaws and mistakes in it's present cryptographic mechanism and signatures and does everything to change and implement a more robust and immune one.

The certified forward secure cryptographic signature, is one such signature that was introduced into the blockchain network and into the world of digital security to address the issues of vulnerabilities of other ceyptographic signature schemes and to facilitate innovation and advancement of blockchain networks.

The Certified forward secure signature is designed to ensure that past signatures generated with any given private key remains secure regardless of the present state of the private or whether it has been compromised, in this post, I am going to be explaining and discussing some of the major characteristics of the certified forward secure signatures.

  • FORWARD SECURITY

The forward security, is basically one of the major characteristics of the certified forward secure signatures, this is the characteristics and features that ensures the basic and foundation on which the certified forward secure signature scheme or algorithm is built, it is what ensures that the integrity of past signatures remain secured even when the private key has been compromised.

The forward security basically ensures that when an attacker or any malicious person gets hold of a blockchain users private key he does not have the ability forge previous or past signatures or even invalidate them, this type of security is ensured by periodically updating the private key however, the public key remains unchanged.

In the forward security, each and every private key is mathematically derived from the previous private key but cannot be used to determine the previous private keys therefore making the certified forward secure signature valuable in networks who rely and depend on the integrity of long term data.

The certified forward secure signature scheme unlike many other cryptographic schemes and algorithms who find it difficult to manage their cryptographic keys, to the extent that it affects the efficiency of the network as a whole, it has certain features and characteristics that allows it to facilitate efficient key management.

The certified forward secure signature scheme is one that has its private keys regularly and periodically updated so as to ensure long term security of past transaction and signatures however, with this mode of operation it is still able to ensure the efficient management of its networks cryptographic keys.

Therefore, inorder to ensure efficiency, the mathematical computation required to generate and update the private key is designed to require or use minimal computational resources, this efficiency as a result of the simplicity of the updating and distribution process of the private key alone, ensures the services offered by the blockchain network is cost friendly to both users and nodes.

  • SCALABILITY

Scalability, is a very important characteristics and feature for every blockchain network and cryptocurrency based system to have and fortunately the certified forward secure signature possesses and offers scalability to blockchain networks as one of its major characteristics and features.

Scalability ensures that a network or system is able to increase its workload without it having a negative impact on the overall performance of the network or system, and it is most especially important, suitable and preferred for networks who base their income on offering large scale or higher volume transactions processing.

The certified forward secure signature is well known for its foundational characteristics and feature of forward secure systems and because this signature scheme has been able to attain efficiency in how it manages the generation and distribution of private keys, it is therefore able to make the network it is implemented in more scalable.

  • RESISTANCE TO KEY COMPROMISE

Most of the other cryptographic signatures are known to be susceptible to certain flaws and vulnerabilities that makes them unable to protect and secure the cryptographic keys of their users which leads to attackers gaining control of users private but on the other hand, the certified forward secure signature scheme is resistance and immune to this threat and all its consequences.

The consequences of a blockchain network having the private key of its users compromised is that the signatures generated with that key cannot be allowed to remain active or be used to authenticate transaction because the network cannot really tell if it's the original user or the thief making use of the key.

However, the certified forward secure signature just like I mentioned earlier has certain features and characteristics that facilitates the risk of key compromise is reduced and even totally impossible, this is basically because of how the signature operates by periodically updating the private signature and making past signatures immune to any form of manipulation even when in possession of the current private key.
