In my blog for the past few days we have been discussing about blockchain and it's advantages to our world.
We know that blockchain has affected different aspects of our world today and in our last discussion, we learnt how the blockchain technology has shaped the educational sector.
Today, we shall be discussing how the blockchain technology has affected the health sector.
The health sector is a very important sector in human life as it helps to cater for the health of humans.
It produces drugs that can be used whenever one is sick and also look for ways in which the human life can be improved.
Please continue with me as we examine ways in which the blockchain has improved the health sector.
HOW THE BLOCKCHAIN HAS IMPROVED THE HEALTH SECTOR
- DATA SECURITY AND PRIVACY:
One of the main feature of a blockchain is it's ability to maintain a high level of security.
It is known that the blockchain has the ability to keep data very secured as it is very difficult to hack.
The blockchain provides an immutable and decentralized ledger where health records and very sensitive patient data can be securely stored.
The use of consensus mechanism and cryptography by the blockchain ensures that the data is protected from un-authorized access, which implies that it is tamper-proof.
With the application of blockchain technology in the health sector, patient have full control over their data and their data can be sent across the necessary health practitioners while it is still kept secured.
- CLINICAL TRIALS AND RESEARCH:
The blockchain has the ability to store data securely just as we have explained above.
The stored data in the blockchain helps to enhance clinical research while maintaining patient privacy.
The blockchain technology also helps to improve the efficiency, transparency and integrity of clinical research studies.
The smart contract in the blockchain can help to automate various processes such as data collection and monitoring with the consent of the patient.
All of these can be done and still maintain the privacy of the patient in the picture.

The transparency of a blockchain helps in the improvement of the health sector.

By recording the data of every movement and transaction of drugs on the blockchain, it helps to ease the process of verification and authentication of the issuance/ use of a drug.
And this plays a big role to control the issuance/use of counterfeit drugs, it also limits the risk of diversion of drugs and ensures the optimum safety of patients.
- INTEROPERABILITY AND DATA EXCHANGE:
The blockchain enables the exchange of data between different healthcare system and database.
It helps to facilitate the secure sharing of medical reports, test results and other important medical details across the network of health provider, here by reducing the duplication of test results and increasing the coordination of health care services.
This improved form of data exchange helps to promote better decision making of the medical practitioner, hereby ensuring the safety of the patient.
