How important are communities in Steemit?

Hello friends of the Steem Alliance community, I hope you are all very well and that the information I bring today to share in this post is of your greatest pleasure and that it serves to make you see a great evolution in this platform, and these are the communities.

I'll start by saying that I am in Steemit since January 23, 2018, date on which I opened my account, although I knew of this platform since late 2017, but before opening an account was not as easy as now, it was a real protocol, you had to wait 3 weeks for the keys of the new account to arrive to the affiliated mail, and only then we could start posting, unlike now that it is very easy to do so.

But there have been changes not only in the speed of opening accounts but with the creation of communities, that's what I want to talk about next.

Steemit has been active for almost 7 years since its creation, and when it started working, back in 2016, there were no communities. Yes, for people who have less than three years on the platform it will probably seem very strange to imagine Steemit without communities, but that's how it was.

Let's remember that the creators of Steemit did it with the intention of using that great booming phenomenon, as social networks were, and join it with the emerging technology called Blockchain. And logically, as if to emulate what people knew, the thematic classification was done exclusively by the use of tags.

Nowadays we also use them, logically, to filter content, however, the main way of organization in the platform are Communities. I remember when these were created, it was a little more than 3 years ago, that meant a great advance at the time, since it allowed the creation of spaces for specific topics, as well as the creation of more organized teams within the communities and, logically, to have a better control of all the content.

At the time we had to go to review by tags, which was organized, of course, but it was more open. Although the theory says that this kind of platforms were created to decentralize, in a way, when the communities were created some centralization entered here, and it's ok, it was necessary. As a community manager it is difficult for me to visualize how to create a community like Colombia-Original or even like Steem Alliance if the platform itself does not give the opportunity, and in the end, it is about evolving.

And finally to answer the question:

How important are the communities in Steemit?

The internal organization of the platform is given specifically by the existence of communities, even allows users (administrators, writers, curators) and other participants within this ecosystem to organize and unify criteria to coexist in a more balanced way, and that the authors can be more located and supported.

There are users who focus more on a particular community, because it is in line with the theme they like to develop as a writer, and that's fine. It is becoming less and less common to publish only on the blog, and people basically choose to do it in a community, because otherwise, it does not seem to make much sense.

Conclusion

I think that Steemit since the creation of the communities evolved to a much more balanced and organized way of interaction, where the distribution of power is centered in each of these, giving the possibility of having more order in the whole process of creation and benefit from the creation, and considering that this is largely the meaning of this platform, the communities are an elemental and fundamental part of this platform.
