SLC27/W5 | YouTube Analytics & Consistency Strategy
Welcome to the 5 week of the "Learn to Be a YouTuber" program!
You have all gone through many stages from the previous lessons, starting from creating a channel, writing scripts, making videos, and building a professional look with branding and attractive thumbnails. In this fifth week, it is time to move on to a more strategic stage, which is analyzing the progress of your own channel.
Almost all YouTubers quit not because they run out of ideas to upload to their YouTube channels, but because they don't know whether they are growing or not. This is where YouTube Analytics plays a very important role. Its purpose is to understand data, for example:
- You will know what kind of videos your viewers and subscribers like the most.
- Which parts of the video cause people to leave,
- And you'll know the best time to upload so that more people will watch.
In week 5, you'll all learn how to read YouTube data and create strategies to keep your channel consistent and growing.
Getting to Know the Analytics Dashboard
Previous lessons have already taught you how to upload videos, so surely your channel now has several videos. Let's monitor its progress through YouTube Studio.
First, you can visit the page: https://studio.youtube.com or if you are using a smartphone, you can download the YouTube Studio app from the Play Store or App Store.
After visiting your YouTube Studio page, you can log in first, then select the “Analytics” menu. In this menu, you can see all the data about your channel's recent performance, from the number of viewers to audience habits. Analytics itself is a mirror for creators, where you can find out which videos are liked, where viewers start to get bored, and when they are most active in watching.
Generally, this dashboard is divided into four important sections, including:
a. Views
Views show how many times your video has been watched, both by new and existing viewers. When viewers play your video for at least 30 seconds, YouTube counts it as 1 view. Usually, viewers will open your video if they find the title, thumbnail, and topic interesting. It's important to note that the more views you have, the higher the chance your video will appear in YouTube recommendations.
Some things to note in the views menu:
- You can see which videos are most viewed. The purpose of viewing this is so that you know which topics are very popular and suitable to be developed for future videos.

- Traffic Source. There are several traffic sources when your video is found on YouTube, such as: YouTube Search, where your video is found through a search; Browse Features, where your video is found because it appears on the viewer's homepage; Suggested Videos, where your video appears alongside other videos; and External, where viewers find your video from outside YouTube, for example from Steemit, Instagram, and other links.
- CTR (Click-Through Rate). With CTR, we can determine the percentage of people who see your thumbnail and actually click on it. If your CTR is above 5%, it means that your thumbnail is quite attractive.
b. Watch Time
Watch Time tells us the total time viewers spend watching videos on your channel. The longer people watch, the greater the chance that YouTube will recommend your channel's videos to more people. The importance of Watch Time on YouTube is not only to assess the number of views, but also how long people stay to watch. Therefore, YouTubers are very keen to create videos with the aim of achieving high watch time so that the videos are considered high-quality and interesting.
c. Audience
The Audience section will explain who your actual viewers are. There, you will find information ranging from their age, gender, location, to when they actively watch your videos on YouTube.

There are several things to consider here, including:
- Geography (Audience Location). By knowing the location of your audience, for example, 80% of your audience is from Indonesia, you can discuss the content using that language and context.
- Gender & Age. This is also very important so that you can adjust the style of the videos you create.
- When Your Viewers Are on YouTube. In this section, you will see the times and days when your audience is most active watching videos on your channel.
d. Engagement
In the Engagement menu, you can see how actively your audience interacts with your videos, not only by watching, but also by reacting with likes, comments, shares, and subscriptions.
Consistency: The Key to Channel Growth
It is important to note that analytics are only useful if you act based on the data. However, if you have a talent for producing good videos but lack consistency, your channel will not grow.
Here are some tips to help you maintain consistency:
- You must set a fixed upload schedule. For example, 3 videos per week or 1 video per day.
- You must use the same pattern: intro, speaking style, tone, and visual colors, so your viewers can easily recognize your videos.
- It's also crucial to pay attention to growth patterns. If videos on a particular topic consistently attract a large audience, create follow-up versions.
- Finally, you must use Analytics data as your compass. Remember, don't just guess; analyze what truly works.
Consistency isn't just about uploading frequently, but also about maintaining quality and keeping your content direction clear.
Week 5 Assignment
Task 1 — Channel Analysis
Start by logging into YouTube Studio, then go to Analytics and study the data. Pay attention to the Views, Watch Time, and Audience sections. Take a screenshot of the channel Analytics display as proof of the task. Write down three things you learned from the data.
Task 2 — Next Content Plan
Write a brief plan (150–200 words) for your next three videos.
Explain: The theme of each video, the goal or message you want to convey, and the improvements you will make based on this week's analysis results.
Task 3 — Inspiration from Successful YouTubers
You must name 3 YouTubers you want to use as a guide and inspiration, then write what you will apply from their style to your own channel.
(Remember that these YouTubers already have monetized channels and are already big).
