SteemFoods: Kinilaw nga Puso sa Saging || Cebuano Banana Blossom Salad
Hello Steemit foodie friends!!! How are you all doing today? I wish you good health and happiness wherever you may be today. Magandang buhay!!! Greetings of a beautiful life from the Philippines! 🇵🇭
For today, I'm going to share another Cebuano recipe which is very affordable and nutritious. It's main ingredient is the puso sa saging or banana blossom. Bananas on trees grow in clusters and at the end of the cluster, a purple flower grows- this is known as the banana blossom (or banana flower or banana heart). The petals are fleshy and soft and therefore perfect for vegan dish!
Since, Aunt Billie harvested her bananas, she gave me the banana blossoms for me to cook. I thought of cooking this into vegan balls, or adding this into our Utan Bisaya or Cebuano version of a vegetable soup. But then, I decided to cook it something appetizing like a salad. So, here's my recipe for my Kinilaw nga Puso sa Saging or Banana Blossom Salad.
These are the ingredients that I used:
3 pieces (about 4-5 cups when sliced) banana blossom, sliced, boiled and drained
1 piece grated coconut
2 glasses of water
3 tablespoons vinegar
2 pieces tomatoes, sliced
1 piece onion, sliced
2 pieces sword pepper, sliced
Thumbsize ginger, sliced
Salt to taste
A dash of ajinomoto seasoning
Spring onions for garnish
Let's start cooking!
First, grate the coconut.
My husband @hulyootso is a pro when grating stuffs like this. Thanks my love 🧡
Second, prepare all the ingredients ready by washing and slicing them. Slice the banana blossom into thin pieces. Slice the tomatoes, onion, ginger and sword pepper.
Third, in a pot, add water and the sliced banana blossom. Let it boil and check until the meat is soft and tender.
Fourth, drain the boiled banana blossom in a colander to remove excess water. Set it aside.
Fifth, add two glasses of water to the grated coconut and extract the coconut milk. Use a strainer to separate the liquid from the grated coconut.
Sixth, in a bowl, transfer the banana blossom. Pour the coconut milk.
Seventh, add 3 tablespoons of vinegar. And add the sliced tomatoes, ginger, onion and sword pepper on the banana blossom.
Eight, season with some salt according to your preference and a dash of ajinomoto seasoning. Toss all the ingredients lightly.
And lastly, garnish with some spring onions and serve!
And there you have it, my Kinilaw nga Puso sa Saging is now ready to serve! Let's eat everyone!
I hope you enjoyed our vegetable dish for today. You could also try this at home with your family and friends. I would really love to hear from y'all.
Ciao! Take care. Thanks for visiting my blog. Hanggang sa muli, mga kaibigan.
