Steemfoods Contest 17 : Promote Your Favorite Streetfood Restaurant - LA FRANGIPANE (Mauritius)
Today while reading the latest post from @steemitfoods ...I noticed that we were left with only 9hrs before the end of the 17th contest!
And now...I think less than 3 hours before the end and I just completely forgot to send my entry!
So here I am promoting my favorite streetfood restaurant, which by the way is for a very good friend of mine who got some big issue in his career 1 yr back. I infact helped him set up this small shop to get up again and get back his smile!
La Frangipane Patisserie - Mauritius
Opened just little more than a year before, this roadside pastry has earned quite a good name since!
The idea that I gave to the chef was to bring street sweet/desserts to 5 star level that can be enjoyed by locals mainly.
Most locals have indeed never entered a hotel or big restaurants in their life...so bringing such foods on the roadside was a noble idea over everything else.
This is the chef, Andre, at work. He has over 30yrs of experience in top hotels as pastry chef in many countries. But as many of you knows...once you hit certain age...the hospitality sector is cruel and no more needs you!
He found himself without work and seeing his state, I helped him found a shop to open a small pastry for the locals in a small village called Notre Dame found in the north of Mauritius!
With the corona virus, it is impossible to sell food in the open air now in Mauritius, the law has become more strict than before. I believe this is good on one hand as the level of hygiene is of top level now.
Foods must be cooked and served in a closed area - that is minimum a shop, not allowed on the road.
Here is the entrance of the small pastry shop of La Frangipane.
Please note that the shop is very small...3meters X 4 meters only.
All snacks/sweets/desserts served on take away basis only - No place to sit.
The desserts that he sell is really of high quality...
He is making simple cakes but bringing them to high level with his experience!
On top of the small desserts that he sells in the shop , he also take orders for any occasions like welcoming new baby...
And also all types of birthday/wedding cakes...he is kinda specialist on such cakes...let the photos do the talking!
Inside the shop...it is so clean and well arranged.
All the different cook books that Andre has been using are exposed and anyone can check it for free!
Ramadan menu!
As we are in the month of Ramadan, he even came up with a special Ramadan menu...with very affordable price.
On average, the below items are like about 0.25usd per piece!
1 USD = Rs 40 approx.
So here we are with my entry for this awesome contest organized by @alicko07, who is working hard day and night for all the foodies of Steemit.
The below photo is the chef with his wife...how glad I am that they got back their smile after the storm!
And here's me and the chef, earlier today when I went there to buy some sweets/desserts for Iftaar!
