NIGERIAN LOCAL/NATIVE RICE: HOW TO PREPARE
Hello Steemians, hope you all are doing just great? It's my very first time of posting a recipe and I hope at the end of this, you will learn something new.
Today, I will be showing us how to prepare Nigerian local rice. Some call it palm oil rice or local jollof rice.
The ingredients for this meal are as follows:
- Two cups of rice
- Two seasoning cubes
- Salt
- Pepper (i like mine sliced),onion, crayfish and any vegetable of choice. I used a local vegetable here called Adusa in my dialect, that is black pepper leaves.
- Fish (any fish of choice - you can use shrimps, croaker, etc)
- Palm oil
Let's begin!
Step 1:wash rice until clean and place on fire to boil.
Please note, how long it takes to almost get soft, depends on the type of rice used.
Step 2: Be sure rice is almost soft and with little water on its top, then add salt to taste.
Step 3: add onion, pepper, fish, crayfish and seasoning cubes and turn it all over withh a spoon so the ingredients can settle and let it for 3mins.
Step 4: add palm oil and allow for water to dry.
Step 5: when you notice the water is almost dry,put in the vegetable and turn it all in as fast as you can and turn off the light. You don't want your vegetable to get over -done.
Please note, seasoning cubes and salt are not to be used too much in meals as they contain chemical substances that can be harmful to the body. So it is often advisable to use more of spices or other tasteful ingredients like crayfish, onions etc. This way,you will need little of salt or seasoning cubes. I used just two in mine because I had lots of crayfish and onions. I mean that's one of the reason it's called local rice.
So Nigerian rice is served! It looks delicious right? Yeah, you should make this palm oil rice one of this days. You can have it with water, juice, fried plantain(ripe or unripe),Banana, etc.
