Added nearby google plus code: 4W24+R6 Hungama, Sri LankaWe always love to add green vegetables and fruits to our day today meal. The reason for that is, for a balance diet we should eat vegetables and fruits. Most of the time we do shopping near to our town. Place called "BATA ATHA"
From a street vegetable and fruits vendor. The most important reason for buying vegetables and fruits from them is they have fresh vegetables and fruits. And the price also reasonable when compare with super market price.
We live in Ranna area. The nearest super market is situated at 13 km away from us. Therefore, its not practical to travel there and buy vegetables and fruits for our daily consumption. Addition to this street vendor, we go to weekly "pola" (market) to buy vegetables and fruits.
Personally, I like to buy from this place, the sellers are also friendly , and they help us to select fresh vegetables and fruits. And bargaining also possible with them.
On my last visit, I bought pumpkin , beans, lime, potatoes etc. And I'll attach the bill for your reference . Somehow, you will notice that price is reasonable and vegetables are fresh.
We should help and motivate this kind of people buying their vegetables and fruits. Because they are local entrepreneurs. It will help to raise up their living status. Therefore, it gives us also a satisfaction .
In this place you can buy, king coconut ,wood apple, and many more. They have green leaves also. And most of people in our area go to this place to buy vegetables and fruits. And parking space also good there. And this is open at 9:00 clock and close at 10:00 p.m. On Poyadays (Mercantile holiday in Sri Lanka) also this is open.
If we want to buy large lot we can have purchasing order to them and they make arrangements to supply it.
When I am having a discussion with them, they told me they bring fresh vegetables from Nuwaraeliya also.
Finally, when you visit Ranna you can buy fresh vegetables and fruits from this Bata Atha.

Beans 250g - 70.00 LKR
Potato 500g - 120.00 LKR
Ladies finger 250g - 50.00 LKR
Carrots 250g - 80.00 LKR
3 Oranges - 150.00 LKR
10 Passion fruits - 50.00 LKR
Total Cost - 555 LKR

Hello @inudi, this is what I like to see, traditional market, it looks like my own place, because I barely buy those kind of things in the super mall, but traditional market. The adventages of buying those green in the local market in my town are most of them are fresher and organic the is grown by local poor farmer, and that is necessery to support their suistainable farming land buy buying their product.

i saw this first time here in contest, we called it pantiha and my mom prepare with it delicious dessert and my sick kids love this very much, so thank you very much for this nice post that is excellent, really srilanka is rich in food very much
Thank you very much.pumpkin is a one of tasty food in Srilanka.Most of them are prepared in curry with coconut milk.I haven't eaten pumpkin dessert yet.Someday I will try it.
