tulsi vivaah (basil plant marriage) is another festival in india....
I know it is strange for everyone that in India we celebrate the marriage anniversary of basil plant(tulsi mata) with
Shaligram or Amla branch. In india many plants are given holy status and they are worshipped as Gods and Goddesses. One of them is Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil.Actually tulsi vivah is indication of ending of summer season and beginning of marriages in Hinduism. In this festival we used to ready basil plant as a bride, drap the saree around plant, put bangles, sindoor, jewellery and bindi. We followed the Ritual of weddings like decorating mandap(area where marriage begins), kanyadaan, bhajan(songs) with dholak sangs by all the ladies of houses.
My full lobby is decorated by colourful flowers and lights just like the wedding house even every ladies of my house gets ready nicely. All the ladies keep fast(vrat) on this auspicious day, during the evening, the actual ceremony begins. Before the wedding ceremony begans, both Lord Shaligram and godness Tulsi are given a bath and adorned with fresh flowers as part of the Vivah ceremony. For the ceremony, a yellow thread is used to tie the couple together.
Even every member of my family enjoyed alot, even we danced and taken lots of selfies and photographs to make it more memorable.
The Reasons why we celebrate tulsi vivaah(basil marriage)
■ It removes obstacles from everyone's life and even protects you from misfortunes happening within your family.
