Talking Football
It's all about the controversy coming after the announcement of the BBC Sports premier league team of the season
Source: BBC sports
Yesterday BBC Sport announced thier premier league team of the season for the 2019/2020 season. Unsurprisingly it was dominated by players from the red half of Mersey side with 7 Liverpool players making the cut. The other players making up the team of the season included Kevin de bruyne who has arguably being the best player in the league this season, soyuncu of Leicester city partnering the mighty Van Dijk at the heart of the defence. In attack we have two Liverpool players Salah and Mane being joined by Sergio Aguero. Then we have an inclusion in midfield that generated most of the controversy when the team was revealed, Manchester United's January revelation Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes argument

I was listening to a sports program on radio this morning and the Fernandes inclusion generated just as much argument as it did on Twitter the previous day with the bone of contention being that Fernandes just came in January and has played just a handfull of premier league games which does not justify his inclusion ahead of several other players in the league. In all he has made five (5) premier league appearance having two (2) goals three (3) assist since arriving january
Mateo Kovacic

My observation from most of the argument was that most of the talk was coming from Chelsea fans who felt that atleast Mateo Kovacic should have being their ahead of Bruno Fernandes being that he is most likely their best performer in the middle of the park. In his Defense Kovacic has performed excellently well when called upon by his manager Frank Lampard, infact so many Chelsea fans I have seen and had a conversation with think he has being their best player this season. They felt why would a player make just 5 premier league appearance and be in the team of the year that easily even though the season is not yet done and dusted.

Another point raised by the analyst was that Alison Becker of Liverpool should not make the cut just because he missed a handful of games at the beginning of the season and that statistics only should not be used to judge a player and that Dean Henderson of Sheffield United should instead be between the sticks, a ridiculous claim I should say even though Henderson has performed wonders for his team this season but ahead of Alison that is just a bit over the top for me
My take on the premier league team of the year announced by BBC is that this is a voting made based on preference and not necessarily based completely on player performance. Every individual of course has his/her preference.
If I am to have my own premier league team of the season it will be
Alison in goal still
Van Dijk partnering Soyuncu at the heart of the defence
Roberson and TAA at left and right back
Kevin de bruyne, Wilfred Indidi and Jordan Henderson in midfield
Mane, Jamie Vardy and Auba in attack
Of course every individual has his preference and opinion and the team of the season was voted for by individuals so it will be very hard to appeal to everyone but looking at it one thing most fans agreed with except Manchester utd fans was the very obvious inclusion of Bruno Fernandes
Should Bruno Fernandes have made the premier league team of the year?
This would be an unending argument in all honesty but it's done already and we have to move on with it while we await the hopeful resumption of premier league football. While we are on the waiting game let us make sure we observe the laid down medical advice so as to scale through this covid19 pandemic #besafe #staysafe
