One day working as a proofreader.
One of my friends (who is an early career writer) is working like never before. In this period of distance and social isolation, he is writing his next book and today, he sent me a few pages of his new material so that I could read it and he also asked me to do a review of what is written. In summary, it was a very interesting day and I will comment briefly on today.
I had never worked as a proofreader, but today I had the opportunity and I can say the experience was very interesting in many ways. First of all, I was able to get a real picture of what it is like to proofread a text (and to do it for someone else is more challenging because I felt "forced" not to make any mistakes at all) and this is a very kind of task difficult. Second, the level of attention has to be very minute because it is a job that requires a lot of details.
In addition, slowly reading what is written and realizing the meaning of the words was an extra challenge that even made me know some new words and increase my vocabulary. Honestly, it was a very enriching activity and it made me open to see how complicated this work can be (I already imagined it was a difficult job, but not so difficult when I started doing it)... And at the same time, so pleasurable and in many ways, bring so much new information.
The small details hide errors that would normally not be seen and that is why the work of revising is something that is so important. Outsiders generally have a more complete view of the text and are able to perceive possible errors more easily and correct them more efficiently than writers (who normally already have a tired view)... But beyond that revising a text is - albeit indirectly - part of the material in its entirety (or partiality).

Quem está de fora, geralmente tem uma visão mais completa do texto e consegue perceber os possíveis erros com mais facilidade e corrigi-los de uma maneira mais eficiente do que os escritores (que normalmente já tem uma visão cansada)...
