I do not have it and most likely never will. It doesn't run in my family either. With diabetes you can be born, you can have it in your pregnancy only or get it once you are older. Over weighted people have away bigger chance to join the club of diabetics which means you need to change. If you like it or not you have to change your lifestyle and the way you drink and eat. Most people do not because they are not motivated and there are doctors and meds which can help you. I will never understand why people expect others to take care of their wellbeing while they themselves do not give a damn about it.
If so be like the elderly man in the home I worked at. He knew he could not eat and drink everything but his weak spot was chocolate milk and ice cream. Both he consumed as it was delivered at the front door of the home or by his daughter. Although a part of his legs was already amputated he did not cry or complain about it but enjoyed what was left of him. He was satisfied with the chocolate milk and ice cream and the knowledge he wouldn't live long. The reason why he consumed the chocolate and ice cream in high amounts.

"Nurse this is all that's left", he said.

If you take your responsibility, do not count on others to save you (again), take your burden away it is a good attitude. You indeed only live once and is there a point of following many restrictions if life span perhaps is increased with a few years? Is it worth it? It is a decision we all need to make ourselves.
You can live with diabetics, get old, have fun, there is plenty of food you can eat and there are many substitutes. They taste good I tried them with a lady in the hospital. There is no need to be overweight, harm yourself, make others work for you. Big, heavy bones do not exist and big people do not run in the family but the food we are used to eating. Once we are seriously ill, have cancer we all are tiny and the "big bones" are gone. It says enough and explains too why we are not motivated to follow a diet, change our lifestyle into one that benefits us.

Relatives of mine emigrated and since they emigrated there'no need to have the insulin injections and they are not the only ones who were confronted with this big surprise. Watch your health.
