Visiting a little one in the Pacific/Visitando a un pequeño en el Pacífico✈🌏🗺
🔵Our adventure today takes us beyond 4,000 km of the vast Australian continent, in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, between the Confederate States of Micronesia and the Solomon Islands, our tiny destination awaits us, the beautiful island of Nauru.
Surrounded by coral belts that outline its peculiar oval shape, the Republic of Nauru is considered one of the smallest countries in the world, after the Principality of Monaco and the Vatican.
One of its main attractions is its unique landscape made up of beautiful white sand beaches adorned with curious steep stone peaks that can sometimes reach more than 12 meters in height, which have been formed as a result of the indiscriminate exploitation of phosphate, main natural resource of the island which originated from the large accumulation of guano (bird droppings) for centuries.
Despite its remote location, the small Republic of Nauru has not escaped the onslaught of the contemporary world. It was bombed and besieged by the Japanese during the Second World War, used as a tax haven by the Russian mafia until 2005. It was also colonized by Germany and Australia, becoming independent from it in 2005.
🔴Nuestra aventura de hoy nos llevamas allá de 4.000 km del vasto continente Australiano, en pleno océano Pacífico, entre los Estados Confederados de la Micronesia y las Islas Salomón, nos espera nuestro diminuto destino la hermosa isla de Nauru.
Rodeada de cinturones coralinos que delinean su peculiar forma oval, la República de Nauru es considerada como uno de los países más pequeños del mundo, después del Principado de Mónaco y el Vaticano.
Uno de sus principales atractivos es su singular paisaje conformado por hermosas playas de arenas blanquecinas adornadas con curiosos picos de piedra escarpada que en ocasiones pueden alcanzar más de 12 metros de altura, los cuales se han ido formando como resultado de la explotación indiscriminada de fosfato, principal recurso natural de la isla el cual se originó por la gran acumulación de guano (excrementos de pájaros) durante siglos.
A pesar de su remota ubicación la pequeña República de Nauru no se ha librado de los embates del mundo contemporáneo. Fue bombardeada y sitiada por los Japoneses durante la segunda Guerra Mundial, utilizada como paraíso fiscal por la mafia rusa hasta el 2005. También fue colonizada por Alemania y Australia, independizándose de esta en el añ 2005.
🔵Its inhabitants, the Nauranos, are descendants of indigenous Micronesians and Polynecians, although the island also received a remnant of Chinese immigration.
Nauru is an exotic destination that is worth visiting, it has beautiful landscapes, good coconut, mango and almond crops and an excellent tropical climate, however it is not convenient to visit it between the months of November and February due to the monsoons that break out on the island. .
But let's pause our tour and sit on the white sands of the Nauru coastline, contemplate the vast Pacific Ocean with its symphony of intense blues and greens, only tempered by a beautiful sunset as I tell you three curious facts about our little hostess:
1. Nauru does not have native mammal species, those that exist on the island have been brought from other places.
2. The island has a small lagoon surrounded by a lot of vegetation located in the Buada district in the southeast of the island.
3. Despite its small size Nauru is the country with the best sports performance in the British Commonwealth Games, beating out colossi like Australia.
🔴Sus habitantes, los Nauranos son descendientes de indígenas micronesios y polinecios, aunque la isla también recibió un remanente de inmigración china.
Nauru es un exótico destino que vale la pena visitar, posee hermosos paisajes, buenos cultivos de coco, mango y almendra y un excelente clima tropical, sin embargo no conveniene visitarla entre los meses de noviembre y febrero por los monzones que se desatan sobre la isla.
Pero hagamos una pausa en nuestro recorrido y sentemonos en las blancas arenas del litoral de Nauru, contemplemos el vasto océano Pacífico con su sinfonía de azules y verdes intensos, solamente atenuados por un precioso atardercer mientras les cuento tres datos curiosos de nuestra pequeña anfitriona:
1. Nauru no cuenta con especies de mamíferos autóctonas, los que existen en la isla han sido traídos de otros lugares.
2. La isla cuenta con una pequeña Laguna rodeada de mucha vegetación ubicada en el distrito de Buada al sudeste de la isla.
3. A pesar de su pequeño tamaño Nauru es el país con mejor desempeño deportivo en los Juegos de la Mancomunidad Británica, superando a colosos como Australia.
🔵But before embarking on the return trip, we must reflect on the danger posed by the delicate ecosystem of Nauru, due to the excessive exploitation of its phosphate reserves for more than a century, which has caused them to be almost depleted, some sectors of its soil is unusable and marine life has been decreased.
🔴Pero antes de emprender el viaje de regreso debemos reflexionar acerca del peligro que corre el delicado ecosistema de Nauru, debido a la explotación excesiva de sus reservas de fosfato durante más de un siglo, lo que ha causado que estas estén casi agotadas, algunos sectores de su suelo se encuentren inservibles y se haya disminuido la vida Marina.
