Cerro de La Bandera en La Victoria, Aragua – Venezuela / Hill of The Flag in La Victoria, Aragua - Venezuela

Ya sea para hacer ejercicio o para tener una vista panorámica de la ciudad de La Victoria, el Cerro de La Bandera o de la Juventud es desde hace unos años un lugar muy visitado en el estado Aragua.

Either to exercise or to have a panoramic view of the city of La Victoria, the Hill of The Flag or of The Youth has been a very visited place in the state of Aragua for a few years.

Desde que en su cima se construyó el Monumento José Félix Ribas, inaugurado el 12 de febrero de 2014, se ha convertido en una alternativa de esparcimiento para la gente.

Since the José Félix Ribas Monument was built on its summit, inaugurated on February 12, 2014, it has become an alternative of recreation for people.

Situado en la entrada de la ciudad de La Victoria, se puede subir tanto por el camino principal de cemento como también por unos senderos de tierra que lo rodean pero que son más empinados. El recorrido hasta la cima por la vía oficial es de unos tres kilómetros, siempre en subida y sin sombra.

Located at the entrance of the city of La Victoria, it can be climbed both by the main cement road and also by some dirt trails that surround it but are steeper. The route to the top by the official route is about three kilometers, always uphill and without shade.

Al llegar arriba se pueden ver de cerca los dos monolitos de casi 10 metros de altura cada uno, obra del artista plástico Francisco Verde para conmemorar el Bicentenario de la Batalla de La Victoria (1814-2014) y el Día de la Juventud Venezolana (12 de febrero).

When you get to the top you can see the two monoliths of almost 10 meters high each, work of the plastic artist Francisco Verde to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Battle of La Victoria (1814-2014) and the Venezuelan Youth Day (12 February).

Ubicados dentro de una plaza circular, en su lado interno están los murales con escenas hechas en alto relieve que cuentan la gesta heroica de José Félix Ribas y la juventud que luchó junto a él para vencer al ejército realista (bando español).

Located inside a circular square, on its internal side are the murals with scenes made in high relief that tell the heroic deed of José Félix Ribas and the youth who fought alongside him to defeat the royalist army (Spanish side).

La Batalla de La Victoria, liderada por José Félix Ribas, fue un acontecimiento muy importante en la Guerra de Independencia de Venezuela y el hecho de que en ella participaran jóvenes estudiantes y seminaristas sin instrucción militar y lograran vencer a los realistas (del bando español), hizo que se volviera muy famosa.

The Battle of La Victoria, led by José Félix Ribas, was a very important event in the Venezuelan War of Independence and the fact that young students and seminarians without military training participated in it and managed to defeat the royalists (Spanish side), made it very famous.

Hasta el momento de su inauguración, aparte de la Plaza Ribas, en La Victoria no había otro monumento de importancia que homenajeara esta gesta histórica.

Además del monumento y los jardines que lo rodean, hay un espacio con aparatos para hacer ejercicios, un parque infantil y una edificación que se usa para reuniones y realización de eventos culturales.

Este lugar forma parte del Paseo José Félix Ribas, el cual está al lado del peaje de La Victoria y tiene canchas deportivas, ciclovías y otros espacios para el esparcimiento, además de ser el escenario donde anualmente se celebra el Día de la Juventud con desfile cívico-militar.

This place is part of the José Félix Ribas Promenade, which is next to the tollbooth of La Victoria city and has sports fields, bike paths and other spaces for recreation, as well as being the setting where Youth Day is celebrated annually with a civic-military parade.
