DOING TOO MUCH OF NOTHING

Whenever I am struggling with the motivation I tend to write posts like this, to help me reevaluate my position and find my spark.

I consider myself to be a workaholic (well, I can lazy at times). I tend to drown myself in activities or so it seems. It seems like most times there isn't enough time to get everything done. In most cases, I never get anything done because I am stuck in my head trying to rationalise my time. This I have noticed to be the number one challenge in keeping up with a productive life--you spend all the time planning without achieving anything or spending too much time in your head, neglecting your task.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE.

I will say it pays to be single-minded and focused on one task at a time. This is a difficult feat considering we live in a fast pace environment that demands so much from us. It is far too easy to feel small in a world moving at the speed of light. I try to take control of my time and life by highlighting what I consider to be important. This allows me to work at a pace I am comfortable in. Currently, practising/learning different programming languages and posting on hive are top of my list of activities daily. I try to make such I accomplish these two things before anything else. This gives me a sense of control and accomplishment. Even though i neglect other tasks, i have it at the back of my mind that i have accomplished the most important task(s) of the day.

LAZYING AROUND

It's far too easy to drift through your day procrastinating and neglecting the things you ought to do especially when you work on your own. There are so many distractions that passively consume your time. I find myself strolling through my timeline doing absolutely nothing for hours. Social media happens to be the major distraction for me and i try my best to control the amount of time i spend on twitter and the likes.

Fortunately, i am on the hive, a platform that rewards me for my social activities which give a sense of purposefully as my social activities are not solely for fun. We've been sold this false narrative that fun is the reward for our social activities while these media companies smile to the bank.

REST

We live in a society where people define the quality of their time and life based on activities that generate an economic value which isn't always a case. This might seem to contradict what i said earlier about fun but not really and i will explain why. For most people, it's always a thing of forgoing one for the other--fun or work, which shouldn't be the case. Having a balanced lifestyle entails having time for every activity that help make you become a well-rounded person. So having time for fun, family and yourself is important. I have discovered and I think many of us will attest to the fact that we feel reinvigorated whenever we rest. Rest is important. When you feel drained/irritated physically or emotionally, it is always an indicator that you need rest.

SOMETIMES IT'S ALL IN YOUR MIND.

I often struggle with the feeling of being inadequate. No matter the amount of time and effort i put into a task i will feel i could do more--should do more. I end up putting unnecessary pressure on myself. This, in turn, denies me the joy of rest because i am always thinking about what i should be doing or not doing (right).

I have discovered that most times it's just in your head. The fact that I haven't spent 8hours coding today doesn't mean that the 2 hours I put in doesn't count. We need to be kind to ourselves without necessarily being complacent. Know when to appreciate your effort.

Well, I hope this post resonates with you in some way. Cheers.
