¿Qué significa "Domingo de Pentecostés" para un cristiano?

El término “Pentecostés” viene del Griego pentekoste (hemera), y llega al español a través de la variante “Pentecoste” del latino tardío. La tradición cristiana celebra Pentecostés el 7mo domingo después de Pascua, para conmemorar la manifestación visible del Espíritu Santo que da inicio a la primer Iglesia, tal como se narra en el Libro de Hechos de los Apóstoles.

What does "Pentecost Sunday" mean to a Christian?

The term "Pentecost" comes from the Greek pentekoste (hemera), and comes to Spanish through the "Pentecoste" variant of the late Latin. Christian tradition celebrates Pentecost on the 7th Sunday after Easter, to commemorate the visible manifestation of the Holy Spirit that begins the first Church, as narrated in the Book of Acts of the Apostles.

De los Hechos de los Apóstoles 2, 1-11

Cuando se cumplieron los cincuenta días y llegó la fiesta de Pentecostés, estaban reunidos todos los discípulos. De repente, un estruendo que venía del cielo, como de un viento huracanado, resonó en toda la casa donde se encontraban, y vieron aparecer como lenguas de fuego que se repartían y se posaban sobre cada uno. Y todos quedaron llenos del Espíritu Santo y empezaron a hablar en lenguas extranjeras, con el lenguaje que el Espíritu le inspiraba a cada uno.

Se encontraban entonces en Jerusalén judíos religiosos, procedentes de todas las naciones de la tierra. Al oír aquello, acudieron en masa, y quedaron desconcertados oyéndolos hablar cada uno en su propia lengua. Llenos de asombro y admiración decían: “¿No son galileos todos esos que están hablando? ¿Entonces por qué los oímos hablar cada uno en nuestra propia lengua? Aquí hay partos, medos y elamitas; gente de Mesopotamia, Judea y Capadocia, del Ponto y de la provincia de Asia, de Frigia y de Panfilia, de Egipto y de la Libia Cirenaica; peregrinos de Roma, judíos y convertidos al judaísmo, cretenses y árabes. Y todos los oímos hablar en nuestras lenguas de las grandezas de Dios”.

When the fifty days were up and the Feast of Pentecost came, all the disciples were gathered. Suddenly, a roar that came from the sky, as from a hurricane wind, resounded throughout the house where they were, and they saw tongues of fire appear that spread and settled on each one. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in foreign languages, with the language that the Spirit inspired in each one.

Then there were religious Jews in Jerusalem, coming from all the nations of the earth. Hearing this, they came en masse, and were baffled hearing each one speak in his own language. Full of amazement and admiration they said: “Are not all those who are speaking Galileans? So why do we hear them each speak our own language? Here are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and the province of Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and Cyrenaic Libya; pilgrims from Rome, Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs. And we all hear them speak in our tongues of the greatness of God. ”
