With soft strokes and using the pencil brush I start to make guide lines, here I give shape to Li Shang's character, I determine the proportions of the body, the typical combat position and general characteristics of the face, besides I design the rod that he carries in his hand.

Con trazos suaves y usando el pincel lápiz empiezo a realizar líneas guías, acá le doy forma al personaje de Li Shang, determino las proporciones del cuerpo la posición típica de combate y características generales del rostro, además a demás diseño la vara que lleva en la mano.

Outlined / Delineado

Now we move on to the process of refining the drawing, for this purpose I separate the drawing by layers, the hair, body and clothing are made separately, as well as the rod, all this to facilitate any correction of it. A technique that I usually use for this process, is that each new line I make is made in a separate layer and then joined to the corresponding section.

Ahora pasamos al proceso de refinado del dibujo, para tal fin separo el dibujo por capas, el cabello, cuerpo y vestimenta los realizo por separado, al igual que la vara, todo esto para facilitar cualquier corrección del mismo. Un técnica que suelo usar para este proceso, es que cada nueva línea que hago la realizo en una capa aparte para luego unirla a la sección correspondiente.

Colour / Color

As in the previous step, to facilitate the coloring of the drawing, I proceed to divide it into sections using different layers for each section, which are: skin, clothing, hair and the rod, with the marker brush I apply the color taking care not to get out of the lines. Once the colors are applied I modify a little the saturation and brightness values until I obtain a more accurate shade.

Como en el paso anterior, para facilitar el coloreado del dibujo, procedo a dividirlo en secciones usando capas diferentes para cada sección, las cuales son: piel, vestimenta, cabello y la vara, con el pincel rotulador voy aplicando el color teniendo cuidado de no salirme de las líneas. Una vez aplicado los colores suelo modificar un poco los valores de saturación y brillo hasta obtener una tonalidad mas acertada.

Shadows / Sombras

I proceed to take the color of the area where I am going to darken, under its brightness, I increase a little the saturation, I create a new layer as a mixture multiply and with the help of the airbrush I apply these shadows. I also take the opportunity to add some texture to the clothing and the cane. I usually apply 3 layers of shadows starting with a light one until ending in the darkest one, almost reaching black.

Procedo a tomar el color de la zona donde voy a oscurecer, bajo su brillo, aumento un poco la saturación, creo una nueva capa a modo mezcla multiplicar y con ayuda del pincel aerógrafo aplico dichas sombras. También aprovecho para agregar un poco de textura a la vestimenta y la vara. Por lo general suelo aplicar 3 capas de sombras comenzando con una clara hasta terminar en la más oscura llegando casi al negro.

Lights / Luces

I use the same technique of shading, but this time increasing the brightness and lowering a little saturation of the color, I create a new layer as a mix and apply each brightness by sections using the airbrush, so I avoid mixing the colors with each other. As an extra step and personal touch, I also like to add a certain brightness to the outline of the drawing to make it stand out more.

Uso la misma técnica del sombreado, pero esta vez aumentando el brillo y bajando un poco saturación del color, creo una nueva capa a modo mezcla añadir y aplico cada brillo por secciones usando el pincel aerógrafo, así evito mezclar los colores uno con otros. Como un paso extra y toque personal, me gusta también añadirle un cierto brillo al delineado del dibujo para hacerlo resaltar más.

Background / Fondo

For the background I recreated an outdoor training field, first put a blue base layer, which will serve me for the sky, above this draw the ground, and between the two make the sun and draw the reflection of it on the ground.

Para el fondo recree un campo de entrenamiento al aire libre, primero coloque una capa base de color azul, la cual me servirá para el cielo, arriba de esta dibuje el suelo, y entre las dos realice el sol y dibuje el reflejo del mismo en el terreno.

Details / Detalles

I like to finish the drawings completing it with light and shadow effects, we draw the reflection of the sun on the side Li Shang, we make two copies of the character, the first one we lower its brightness to zero and we pass that layer to the background, then we shoot it a little bit to create a 3D shadow and finally for the second one we add in diffuse effect to create the sensation of movement in Li.

Me gusta terminar los dibujos completándolo con efectos de luces y sombras, dibujamos el reflejo del sol al costado Li Shang, realizamos dos copias del personaje, la primera le bajamos su brillo a cero y pasamos esa capa al fondo, luego la rodamos un poco para crear un sombra en 3D y finalmente para la segunda agregamos en efecto de difuso para crear la sensación de movimiento en Li.
