Bar-Headed Goose, Can Fly Over Mount Everest
Bar-headed goose is one of the regular visitor of Pakistan during migration. Every year they stay on different lakes and dams of Pakistan. They are one of the extreme birds in the world who fly over 7,000m (23,000ft) during migration so they have record of World's Highest Bird Migration. They cross Himalaya to reach their nesting grounds in Tibet. Bar-headed geese fly over Mount Everest so you can say that every year they conquer Mount Everest.
Every wildlife photographer has a dream to see this bird in wild and also photograph it. One of the most favorite bird to photograph. I also planned to see this bird in wild so I travelled to Head Marala, Sialkot, a 4 to 5 hour drive from Rawalpindi.
This bird's life is very difficult as crossing Himalaya to reach Pakistan, the biggest threat they face in their way is hunting. There is no protected area so every where people have created their own hot spots and hunt these beauties. We must discourage the hunting and develop some protected areas for them.
