Cheese Sticks or Tequeños in spanish

Tequeño // cheese sticks

This recipe is a delight of the gods, I made it for breakfast and everyone here in the house was delighted, they asked me if I had bought them because I got up very early to prepare them and nobody saw me making them.

This was super delicious, make this recipe, you will not regret it. Let's go.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of wheat flour
  • 1 egg at room temperature
  • 6 TBSP of cold water
  • 2Tbsp of sugar
  • 1/2 (half) Tbsp of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 200 gr of cheese

Attention: It is important the temperature of the ingredients that I am telling you, otherwise the result will be completely affected.

This is a very easy recipe, we are going to start by placing the 2 cups of wheat flour in our bowl, I used rising wheat flour because it did not have baking powder, if you have it you can add it together with the flour.

Add the 2 tablespoons of sugar

Add the 1/2 tablespoon of salt and mix all the dry ingredients.

We add the egg

Add the cold butter

We mix a little bit

Add the 6 tablespoons of cold water

Now we are going to knead a little in the bowl and then bring this mixture to the previously floured workbench

Here we will knead for approximately 5 minutes, it must knead vigorously, roll out and collect the dough well with quick movements until there are no lumps.

Now we will put it back in our bowl and cover it to let it rest 30/45 minutes.

After the resting time we are going to flour the table again to spread the dough and flour the roller that we will use.

Now roll out the dough until it is flat about half a centimeter thick.

Once this is done we will proceed to cut the surpluses so we have a perfect rectangle.

And in this way it will be easier for us to cut our dough into strips.

Now we will need our cheese cut into strips too.

Now we are going to take a strip of cheese and a strip of the dough and we are going to proceed to wrap it in this way.

This is how tequeños are made, my cheese was soft so some strips broke before wrapping it up.

Now we are only going to heat oil in a frying pan, in general you should use enough oil and place them when the oil is very hot. I, due to personal preference, decided not to use such an exaggerated amount of oil and to pay attention to turn it around to cook both parts.

And here you have it, the tequeños. It is best to eat them hot because this is how the cheese melts.
