Commission #9 Genesis Storm Dragon | Digital Art

in GEMS4 years ago

Hello children of the fantastic world, today I invite you to leave your body in quarantine and put your mind to fly through a world of magic and fantasy, because I have illustrated a dragon and I want you to give him a story, or re imagine in the world where he lives, feel free to make your own world in the comments.

The description that @smanuels has given me for this creature reads as follows: "A dragon with a colossal body, its scales are emerald and its claws and horns are ruby. He have golden runes engraved on his horns and claws. He has horns on his shoulders. He is posing with an omnipotent and proud stance on the top of a cliff. It's a sunset. His mouth is half open and you can see how her breath generates great gusts of wind that raise dust."

Clothing description:
-Clothing head: he has 4 not so big scarlet horns.
-Torso clothing: he has 2 small horns at the height of the shoulders. On the chest it has a scar. The wings are significantly large and prominent, has golden feathers on the edges of the wings, has a pair smaller in the arms, like flippers.
-Legs: Has somewhat large and muscular legs, but in proportion to the arms.
-Footwear: the claws on the hind legs look like rubies.
-Hands and arms dress: he has somewhat muscular arms, but in proportion to the legs.
Height and average weight: immense, 30m of lake, 45m of width with the extended wings.

Tools:

  • Wacom Intuos 4
  • Photoshop
  • Medibang Paint

-Step 1:

I started with a crazy and messy sketch, in which I tried to establish the best position for the dragon, since it had to look powerful and invincible, so I wanted to do it sitting on its hind legs, but then I discarded that idea and made it a little more upright (and forget the second hind leg, someone give it a prosthesis).

-Step 2:

The initial coloring of the dragon was not a big deal, I looked for a little green color and filled with it a little the silhouette of the dragon, at the bottom if I put more desire, because it was a sunset, use the colors of a sunset, applying them with the airbrush.

-Step 3:

In later layers, I gradually detailed the dragon, covering the sketch more and more with its scales and muscles, and you can appreciate the golden edges of the wings better, as well as better detailing the cliff on which the creature imposes itself, there is also a hind leg! Hooray! Thanks to all those who were looking for the prosthesis.

-Step 4:

At sunset it had to be more epic, so I added darker blue tones degrading them with pink tones until reaching the orange one, in this way I achieved a better color composition and a sunset closer to those seen in the sea, and the clouds were great with different illuminations. Also, I adapted the shading to match the horizon, detailing the cliff better and faster, and finally I drew the arms fins, ah and do not forget the breath of the dragon.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

See you in a future post!

Guys we are all doing this because he said to do it , not like we would do it but we just wanna do it because we have no other thing doing as corona has done the rest right?

Awesome! I feel like buying a Wacom tablet now!

They are great, but if you are just starting, it is good that you invest in some cheap model, so you don't spend too much at first and you get the taste

Fantastic work and processes I would say. I always have challenges creating digital art.

Yes, the challenges are there, but it's great to move forward and overcome them
You make art? Wonderful!

A spectacular dragon! I would have liked the blue sky without clouds but obviously your sky has more drama!
Greetings @hadley4

It's a good idea. I'll do it when I make a more peaceful sunset :D
