Altered Carbon Resleeved: Anime Version

in GEMS4 years ago

Last week I saw this movie, and even though it has almost a month since its release, I hadn't seen it yet because after the disappointment that the second season of Altered Carbon left me, I didn't want to know anything about this series for now, but due to its aesthetic made in CGI and with features of anime, I set out to see this movie, which can be characterized as a spin-off of the main series, and compared to its second season, I liked this product more.

Altered Carbon Resleeved, like its main product, is once again based on Takeshi Kovaks, but this time we place ourselves chronologically many years before the main story of the series. And once again, of course, Takeshi is re-founded in another body and assigned the mission of solving a mystery surrounding the death of a former Mafia boss, but in turn, he has to protect a girl who works for the Mafia as a tattooist.

Throughout this little story (despite having a rather interesting plot twist) it is still a fairly simple argument, but equally, at least in my opinion, I think it went much better than the whole second season. In this mystery we are also joined by a woman who belongs to what we could call "a special police force" who has a pretty deep past with Takeshi (and if you haven't seen the series you wouldn't understand the importance of this connection).

It's a film that works, it serves as an alternate story to tell us part of the main character's past and as an addition to what he did before the events of the main series, but in itself, it's not a film that has any strong connection to the main product, since that aspect is quite independent (beyond the connection of the woman I mentioned before with Takeshi).

Visually it maintains all the characteristic aspect of cyberpunk and still looks pretty good, and thanks to the style of animation they used (which in certain aspects looks like a video game) it makes it look very good and striking. In this movie they used "Cell Shading" which is a type of animation similar to CGI, which in this case looks pretty good. Cell Shading is also used in many anime and video games, and because Altered Carbon Resleeved in particular is practically an anime movie, it has many features relating to this style of animation. I saw Altered Carbon Resleeved in Japanese, I think it was the right way to watch the movie and as always Japanese voice actors do an incredible job, without a doubt Japanese voice actors are the ones who best characterize when it comes to a product of Japanese origin (even though I grew up watching anime in Spanish), then when you go to listen to anime in its original language it is certainly a huge change.

In general terms, Altered Carbon Resleeved is a pretty light film, with a simple plot, but with a pretty good plot twist, with very well created action scenes and with an animated style that despite not being my favorite, I think there are products like this film that give a good result.

This looks awesome! Too awesome!! From the images in this post I could say that the Cell Shading works for this show's favour. (No wonder why many games use it, it gives a feeling of style.)

Never knew about Altered Carbon TV series... Looking it up now~
