Hello. Dear nature and ecotourism lovers!

Esta cuarentena la he aprovechado de diversas formas, una de las más prácticas y acogedoras es buscar en mi bitácora fotográfica y biblioteca de vídeos tomados durante mis distintos viajes; en esta oportunidad compartiré parte de mi experiencia en el salvaje ecosistema natural de Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve, South Africa; un esplendoroso lugar lleno de aventura y entusiasmo que lo disfruté al máximo durante mi luna de miel en septiembre de 2015, luego de haberme casado en Londres en una hermosa ceremonia nupcial bajo un ambiente muy familiar. Sin más introducción, iniciemos el recorrido salvaje.

I have taken advantage of this quarantine in several ways, one of the most practical and welcoming is to search my photo log and library of videos taken during my various trips; this time I will share part of my experience in the wild natural ecosystem of Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve, South Africa; a splendid place full of adventure and enthusiasm that I enjoyed to the fullest during my honeymoon in September 2015, after getting married in London in a beautiful wedding ceremony under a very familiar atmosphere. Without further introduction, let's start the wild ride.

Hace 120 años la salida del sol en los sombríos días que dieron cuenta de los sangrientos combates entre la invasora potencia británica y el nativo ejército zulú del rey Cetshwayo, marcaban el inicio estruendoso de las escaramuzas; así, un hermoso amanecer era manchado de sangre, odio y ansias de dominación. A las 5:00 horas desde el frente de mi cabaña, vino a mi mente este doloroso recuerdo histórico.

120 years ago, the sunrise on the dark days that witnessed the bloody fighting between the invading British power and King Cetshwayo's native Zulu army marked the deafening start of the skirmishes; thus, a beautiful sunrise was stained with blood, hatred and the desire for domination. At 5:00 a.m. from the front of my hut, this painful historical memory came to my mind.

Sin embargo, este destello de la historia no iba aguar mi maravilloso día de safari. En tanto, me alisté y después de un suculento desayuno, me dirigí hasta el vehículo donde iniciaríamos el venturoso recorrido para tener la oportunidad de mirar de cerca criaturas salvajes libres en su propio hábitat.

However, this glimpse of history was not going to spoil my wonderful day on safari. Meanwhile, I got ready and after a succulent breakfast, I drove to the vehicle where we would start the adventurous journey to have the opportunity to look closely at wild creatures free in their own habitat.

Cuando me percaté que el vehículo rústico donde me transportaría no tenía una malla o rejas protectoras, sentí que el nivel de adrenalina subió un poco, sobre todo cuando imaginé encontrarnos con leones, tigres y panteras.

When I realized that the rustic vehicle where I would be transported did not have a protective net or fences, I felt that the adrenaline level went up a bit, especially when I imagined meeting lions, tigers and panthers.

Confiando en el personal guía especializado y en mi instinto natural, embarqué y empezamos el emocionante recorrido.

Trusting the specialized guide staff and my natural instinct, I boarded and we started the exciting tour.

En esta imagen muestra dos juveniles ejemplares de impala sudafricanos (Aepyceros melampus melampus) que pastan debajo de la fresca sombra que les brinda el arbusto.

This image shows two South African impala juveniles (Aepyceros melampus melampus) grazing under the cool shade provided by the bush.

Detrás de los arbustos se encuentra una manada de impalas sudafricanos que pastan en la vegetación de chaparral y carrizo; por lo general su dieta comprende hojas, paja y algunas semillas.

Behind the bushes is a herd of South African impalas that graze on the reed and chaparral vegetation; their diet usually consists of leaves, straw and some seeds.

Sabana adentro encontramos esta hermosa jirafa (Giraffa camelopardalis), bello mamífero que estimo mide unos 4.5 metros de altura; se encontraba comiendo hojas de un arbusto y al intentar acercarnos para tomar fotografías de cerca, se alejó.

Inside the savannah we found this beautiful giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis), a beautiful mammal that I estimate is about 4.5 meters high; it was eating leaves from a bush and when we tried to get closer to take pictures of it, it moved away.

A unos dos kilómetros de la zona boscosa donde se encontraba la anterior jirafa, visualizamos otros ejemplares que se echaron a correr en plena sabana cuando sintieron el ruido del vehículo.

About two kilometers away from the wooded area where the previous giraffe was located, we saw other specimens that ran away in the middle of the savannah when they felt the noise of the vehicle.

Este Kudú mayor (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) con su imponente cornamenta y porte físico, advierte a los visitantes que hay límites territoriales que deben respetarse para mantener las buenas relaciones entre ambos. En la parte de atrás se puede observar otro antílope de esta misma especie y un gigantesco elefante africano de sabana (Loxodonta africana).

This major Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) with its imposing antlers and physical bearing, warns visitors that there are territorial boundaries that must be respected to maintain good relations between the two. In the back you can see another antelope of this same species and a giant African savannah elephant (Loxodonta africana).

Una hora después, cuando regresábamos al campamento, nos detuvimos y grabamos un pequeño video, el cual incorporé al final del video donde conocimos al león.

An hour later, when we were returning to the camp, we stopped and recorded a small video, which I incorporated at the end of the video where we met the lion.

Estos antílopes al parecer se la llevan bien con los elefantes, ya que existe una fuente interesante de alimento en esta verde y frondosa sabana.

These antelopes seem to get along well with the elephants, as there is an interesting source of food in this lush green savannah.

Hay ciertos árboles que han sido derribados por los elefantes para aprovechar sus partes más frondosas y tiernas; los Kudú son amigos oportunistas en este banquete vegetal.

There are certain trees that have been cut down by the elephants to take advantage of their more leafy and tender parts; the Kudus are opportunistic friends in this vegetable feast.

Este corto vídeo muestra cuando un león intenta cazar su presa en una manada de antílopes que están alertas y se echan a correr ante el peligro del depredador; posteriormente se dirige alrededor del vehículo, pasados varios minutos se retira. El segmento final muestra un elefante pastando junto a un Kudú mayor.

This short video shows when a lion tries to hunt its prey in a herd of antelopes that are alert and run away from the danger of the predator; later it goes around the vehicle, after several minutes it withdraws. The final segment shows an elephant grazing alongside an older Kudu.

Próximo a ocultarse el sol avistamos una manada de Cebra de Chapman, características de la subespecie (Dolichohippus Hippotigris) que pueblan la llanura sudafricana.

Close to sunset we spotted a herd of Chapman's Zebra, characteristic of the subspecies (Dolichohippus Hippotigris) that inhabits the South African plains.

En este paisaje de estepa con su suelo árido y pastizal amarillento y ligeramente verde, disfrutamos ver una hermosa población que se encuentra en el árbol filogenético del primitivo equus, noble criatura perisodáctilo que apareció hace 160 millones de años y evolucionó grandiosamente para llegar hasta nuestros tiempos en diversas especies y subespecies.

In this steppe landscape with its arid soil and yellowish and slightly green grassland, we enjoy seeing a beautiful population found in the phylogenetic tree of the primitive equus, noble perissodactyl creature that appeared 160 million years ago and evolved greatly to reach our times in various species and subspecies.

Al regresar al campamento me llamó la atención el radiante y pasivo ocaso con su llamativo color amarillo y destellos rojizos que se expandían por el imponente horizonte extraordinario de Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve. Sin duda es el fenómeno del efecto Mie en su máximo esplendor.

As I returned to the camp, I was struck by the radiant, passive sunset with its striking yellow color and reddish flashes that spread across the imposing extraordinary horizon of the Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve. Without a doubt, it's the phenomenon of the Mie effect at its best.

El día siguiente no fue menos interesante y emocionante que el anterior, esta preciosa caída de agua y hermoso accidente geográfico es solo un abre boca de lo que disfrutamos.

The next day was no less interesting and exciting than the previous one. This beautiful waterfall and geographical feature is just a mouth-watering example of what we enjoyed.
