Querida comunidad hoy ciomparto con ustedes a través de estás imágenes los pepinos de mar que atrapó un amigo y los tenía en el vivero de su barco y luego los hecho en un balde para sacarlos para la orilla, estos son animales marinos e invertebrados con forma de gusanos, emparentados con los erizos y estrellas marinas, que se distribuyen en todas las latitudes, desde las aguas cálidas en el trópico hasta las aguas frías cerca de los polos; tanto en zonas someras como en zonas profundas.

Son organismos que se alimentan filtrando su alimento de los sedimentos (filtradores); es decir que separan los microorganismos del material que conforma el fondo, con lo cual lo oxigenan al remover las capas de sedimento y devuelven nutrientes al medio a través de su materia fecal.

Los Pepinos de Mar han sido utilizados amplia mente como fuente de alimento, ya que contienen alto contenido proteico, además que se le atribuyen propiedades afrodisíacas (Chen 2004, Bordbar y col., 2011). Una creciente demanda y desorbitantes precios (desde 8 a 80 $/Kg en fresco y de 300 hasta 1.000 $/Kg procesado en 2017) ha llevado a la disminución mundial de muchas de sus poblaciones; siendo la sobrepesca uno de los principales problemas que ha contribuido al su declive como recurso pesquero.
