Last night, my sister told me she'd been having that feeling of forgetting why she's doing something as trivial as walking in to the kitchen. She hasn't been able to stay focused.

She starts on a task, and it's only a few minutes before she's distracted. To sum it up, her productivity has gone down. She wanted my advise on how she could regain that.

Well...she's not alone

Last week, I bumped into my next door neighbor as I was taking the trash out, and we started talking. I asked how he's doing, to which he replies "I'm incredibly busy...doing nothing but cooking and walking the dog".

funny right?

Except he wasn't joking! I'd bet you also feel this way sometimes. Suddenly it takes an herculean effort to get anything of substance done.

But as it turns out, there's an explanation for this..

Extra anxiety caused by the covid-19 pandemic has impaired our working memory.

Research has shown that rapidly changing circumstances, worry and anxiety can all have a significant impact on your ability to focus.

It's possible that even simple cognitive processes like making a shopping list now requires more brain power.
Now, rather than thinking "ill just run to the store", you're thinking about what you need, what stores are open and whether it'll be safe to go out.

But fret not!

You can try to limit the things that make you feel anxious simply by cutting down on your news consumption and taking a break from social media probably.

It's hard to be productive all the time and there's NOTHING wrong with not being able to work at 100% capacity.
Try not to be overloaded with information, and try to convince yourself it's OK to be struggling.

PS: stay safe
Much love from here
