Rebuilding as you speak

I.

A seed, through sun and moisture
in the cradle of dark matter
learns to sprout from its mother:
to endure, learns from its father.

Who obeys parental heeding
rises further, tender seedling
now become in watchful shadows
under blanket of the meadows
beacon of undying hope.

Through triumphs thrive and travails cope,
you dawning light, you fledgling oak:
how many trunks lie bent and broken
'neath the soil's skin, a token
of vicissitude?
Such will not be you.

Destined pine, to break the bitter winter—
sing through blizzard ever, evergreen.
Skyward reach and root toward earth-center,
you, who life redeem and death demean.

Hold your enemies by brightest shine
upon the vestibule of portal thine;
bar the entry vigilant with grace
to any parasite who upon face
beaming with radiance would gladly spit;
keeping your spirit bright and lantern lit.

And when it happens, as it surely will
that you not heed my words, and an evil
encroaches on your heart and makes life bleak;
remember to re-light the hearth with flame
and let the glory of your given name
sing resonance, rebuilding as you speak.

II.

Through many a long season's turn
I have held fast upon the earth
and steeled my bark against the axe
and held my peace against the blast
of northern wind, but now long life
weighs down on me, and I relax
defenses for a second's split
and realize old curses writ
by enemies that enter.

Deep unto the shattered fibers
of my vain-impatterned grains
come crawling the abysmal ones
to seek unto the heartwood.

You termite, woodworm, enemy
come eat away, devour me;
you lay me open, waiting
for the elements to end me.

And into spinning torpor
I am launched by pain, a stupor
of delusion, blessed visions
come and make their visitations
smooth upon my inner eye.

I see senseless and euphoric,
the pristine and the disfigured
forms of fantasy bucolic,
writhing spectres of derision,
blooming scenes of wicked paradox
that seek to blind already lost
in further dimming gloam.

Then a voice comes through the darkness
as recede the hued delusions
to intone the prophecy
that long ago was laid on me:

Destined pine, to break the bitter winter—
sing through blizzard ever, evergreen.
Skyward reach and root toward earth-center,
you, who life redeem and death demean.

Hold your enemies by brightest shine
upon the vestibule of portal thine;
bar the entry vigilant with grace
to any parasite who upon face
beaming with radiance would gladly spit;
keeping your spirit bright and lantern lit.

And when it happens, as it surely will
that you not heed my words, and an evil
encroaches on your heart and makes life bleak;
remember to re-light the hearth with flame
and let the glory of your given name
sing resonance, rebuilding as you speak.

And I awoke, epiphany
unlocked by benediction
gentle of healing chemistry:
a simple realization,
and let the soul, rebuilding ever
gild my wounds, and seal the sever,
blight expel, and brightly beckon
day, again to love and reckon.
