13 Reasons Why - Clay's Story?
Before I come to the reason I used that title, I will give you a quick run down of what the series is about.
Hannah Baker arrived at Liberty High School. A school she found when she left her previous one. A school which also contributed to the reason she killed herself.
The series began with the tapes she left before her death. She made 13 tapes explaining the reason she had to kill herself and the people who made her do it because of the way they treated her.
Season 1 was figuring out the ones responsible.
Season 2 was a lawsuit by her family against the school which they lost in the end.
Season 3 was Bryce's death which I'm not sorry for by the way. Rapists should leave this world for us. I'm sure you agree with me.
Season 4 is coming soon. I just saw the trailer.
Sorry if you've seen it and expecting more details. I'm trying to not spoil the show for those who haven't.
Now, to why I chose that title.
From season 1, Clay Jensen, a seventeen year old boy have been the one carrying all the responsibilities and keeping everyone in check. Yes, it was supposed to be Hannah's story but there would be no series without Clay. Funnily enough, he's always at the receiving end. Not just with Hannah's affections but also with everything else. His classmates trying to shut him up or scare him off.
He was a kid who's always had and was managing his sleeping problem. And your guess is right. It came back. He knew and saw everything. He kept all the secrets, something that's a bit too much for a teenager, yet he managed to keep everything together.
I really didn't like the introduction of the Annie character in season 3, but I guess they needed a new perspective. We can't predict what happens. With art, you never know.
Clay is the lead character and he plays it so well. He keeps things under control. Now, it's gone beyond Hannah. Her character was wrapped in season 2. It's more of what kids go through in high school this time.
Some have argued that the series should have ended in season 2, that there's no need for all the emotional baggage but I believe it's necessary. Hannah took the easy way out. She ended her life but her death didn't end the cycle of abuse which continued to happen, and they got uglier by the day.
It shows the internal war that parents of rich kids fight amongst themselves and how they oppress the lower ones. There's also the enabling. Rich kids get away with everything.
This series is not an easy one to watch. I always say that if you've been through such and haven't healed, you shouldn't watch alone. Teenagers should watch with an adult too. It has graphic contents but it's educative.
Here is the season 4 trailer.
Let's hear your thoughts about it.
I have watched the movies a long time ago. I am happy to hear that the next season will be out soon.
