The tsunami museum in the center of Banda Aceh City is both a reminder and a monument of appreciation for people who had struggled to survive when the tsunami on 26 December 2004 struck. This museum is free to open to the public, you only need to pay parking fees if you bring a vehicle.

In the museum with this unique arch design, you can feel the atmosphere during the tsunami and see photos and stories of survivors. The names of the victims were written in neat arrangements on the museum wall. On the outside, the museum building looks like a large ship, but if from above, its shape resembles ocean waves.

Besides functioning as a historical object, this building also has a function as an evacuation site in the event of a tsunami. Walking a little behind the museum there is a Dutch military cemetery when the Aceh war took place. About two thousand local soldiers and the Dutch East Indies were buried here.

An area of ​​eight hectares which was once an area of ​​people's rice fields has now been transformed into a green open space of Banda Aceh which has many historical stories. Not far from this field there is a replica monument of the Dacota DC-3 Seulawah RI-001 aircraft which is a contribution of the people of Aceh to Indonesia. This aircraft later became the forerunner of the aerospace industry in Indonesia.
