Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 27: My body, my choice

Introduction

Hello steemians. Hope we’re doing okay. It’s another day to unlearn and learn new things about our bodies. I want to thank @steem4nigeria for organising this contest. The world is fast evolving and changing so many things about who we are, that includes our identities as persons. This has become a matter of concern to so many. And fortunately enough, we shall be looking at this today. Shall we?

DO YOU AGREE WITH THE BODILY AUTONOMY ARGUMENT WHICH STATES THAT "EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO CONTROL WHAT HAPPENS TO THEIR OWN BODY, WHICH INCLUDES DECISIONS ABOUT MEDICAL CARE, REPRODUCTION, AND SEXUALITY. WE WILL LOVE TO KNOW YOUR REASONS.

I agree totally with this. Everybody has the right to do make decisions about their medical care, and reproduction. But when it comes to sexuality, I totally and strongly disagree. To start with, this is a very sensitive topic to discuss, and whatever massage I’d be conveying here is totally objective, and my own perspective of how it should.

Having a right to something doesn’t mean we should abuse it. Our sexuality gives us the identity to which group we belong to. But a number of persons have become unsatisfied with who they are today, thereby wanting to change it.

Here, I think it shouldn’t be so. We have no right whatsoever to change our identity. One should understand that the way we are born is perfect enough to match what we must do.

THE WEIGHT OF BIRTH CONTROL HAS BEEN WEIGHING HEAVILY TOWARDS THE WOMAN WITH ITS PROCEDURES AND SIDE EFFECTS, DO YOU THINK THIS RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD BE SHARED EQUALLY.

I don’t think so. From the beginning, women have been known as being responsible for birth giving, and that has been the standard till today. This is apart from being shaped by societal values and perspectives, this has been from the very onset.

I don’t really see the sense in wanting to change that right now, with some facts of sharing responsibilities equally. Like I said, this might be a fact to want to do something new, but if it doesn’t conform to what we’ve known for years, then it’s not helping, and can become problematic.

There are already enough responsibilities shared between shared between men and women. That should be the way to lead us on, and not birth giving.

IF A WOMAN HAS RIGHTS OVER HER BODY, AND MAY DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO ABORT A PREGNANCY, DO YOU THINK MEN ALSO HAVE RIGHTS OVER THEIR POCKETS, TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITIES AND SUPPORT THE CHILD?

As long as the child is very much present and has needs to be catered for, men do not only have the right, but are obliged to support and take responsibility of that child.

Everything depends on one’s choice, though. But I wouldn’t see abortion as a choice after knowing the aftermath which is one’s life. But in rare cases, people have justifiable reasons to rather abort. To me abortion is more than flushing out a pregnancy. This is a person’s life and future that has been terminated completely form the surface of this earth, which is terribly sinful and wrong.

If most women who have this thought of abortion knew about this, it’d be known that every life is important.
For the men, it shows how a man is either responsible or irresponsible with the kind of choice he makes. But again, every life is important, and should be catered for to the fullest for a better society.

DO YOU AGREE THAT A PERSON'S RIGHT OVER THEIR BODY SHOULD ALLOW ONE TO CHANGE THEIR GENDER AT WILL? PLEASE EXPLAIN.

It does not! Unfortunately, today, we’re in a world where anything can happen. But I’d like to emphasise again, know who you are, your worth and be satisfied with it.

Sometimes, body shaming leads to wanting to improve or change one’s gender. But that’s odd and uncalled for. You can still be your best version with who are, just the way you came into this world. That’s respect for your body, and your Creator for making you who you are.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HOLD AND EXPRESS A CONTRARY VIEW WITHOUT IMPOSING IT ON OTHERS? PLEASE EXPLAIN.

I don’t think I can do that. A contrary view is like critiquing my already made points in a way that would shade a brighter light on rights about the body.

But all I would say is, our bodies are no mistake the way we came to see them. Embrace your self and know your worth. Appreciate you and do your thing to match your identity. God made us perfect in His image, I don’t think He missed out anything.

Our traditional ways of living should be visited and taken back. Let’s call evil, evil to its face without shaking, and make the world a better place.

Conclusion

Acquiring knowledge should make us better individuals as we become inquisitive about who we truly are. Too much of some knowledge should be well handled, to the glory of God, and respect for one’s self. If anything should change in a person, it should other important things like the attitude and character, not what has been perfectly made already.

Would like to invite @hudamalik20, @sur-riti and @mehwish-almas to participate in this contest.

Thanks for reading through.

I couldn't agree less....
We have been given authority and right to do whatever we want to our bodies.

however we should always think of the consequences of our actions. Thanks for such inspiring write up
