Hello guys, welcome to my blog. I will like to share a topic or health tips most of us may consider unnecessary or not find worrisome each time we indulge. But this has over time been a source of concern to those who know what its implication is all about.

The act of sitting down for long is one that we must treat with all consciousness and be intentional about. There have been several symposia on sitting down with many discoveries made in its side effects. These are some of the facts we must take very seriously while indulging...

Wrecks the Back:

This is one of the commonest effects of sitting long in a position. A lot of stress is put on the back muscles, neck, and spine. Some will want to go for ergonomic chairs that give relative comfort while seating with support to the back and proper back spots. But the truth is that the back muscles will still be stressed from long seating times.

Sitting down is inevitable as it is part of human activities, therefore, we are advised to always get up and walk around every one or two minutes every half an hour we sit at a place. This measure will help keep the spine in line and in check.

High Odds of Diabetes Rise:

Sitting all day increases the possibility of diabetes rising in humans. Not only do we burn fewer calories during this inactivity period but a docile lifestyle changes the way our body reacts to insulin. Insulin is the primary hormone that helps in the burning down of sugar and carbs in the body into energy.

This Undos or Reverses Exercises Done:

This is one effect that should motivate you to discontinue the habit of a long-sitting lifestyle. The effects are hardly corrected when we keep indulging in it and hence reverses all effort put in during our weekly gym and other exercises.

Likelihood of Gaining Weight:

Much of this habit has been linked to gaining unnecessary weight in humans. No matter the amount of exercise done every day, it does not burn down the volume of calories accumulated over time but rather just a scratch to the already gained weight.

Other observed effects of long sitting lifestyle may also include ;

  • Presence of Dementia
  • Presence of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • Leads to Varicose Veins
  • Risk of Blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, and other heart conditions.
  • Life-threatening and may lead to death.

All these are some of the perceived effects of sitting down for long hours without possible break up of this unnoticed lifestyle. Working more with movement into our jobs and habits would help reduce some of these effects if not all.

For office users, taking a walk around the office would be ideal, and standing at your desk for some time while doing your task could also help. Some have gone a step ahead in getting a treadmill desk that allows them to mitigate against the negative effects of long sitting in a position.
